Wow, I'll have a new awareness the next I watch that scene. I saw a fascinating documentary about him and he talked about how he idolized his brother. I think he grew up in Arkansas but I'm not sure. His performance in A Simple Plan felt organic and real, it was definitely underrated.

Yep he’s from Arkansas. Born in Hot Springs if memory serves. Hot springs is about 45 miles north of where I grew up.

I think he still has a place somewhere around there as he despises LaLaLand and all the fakery that goes along with it. There are a couple of great documentaries on the bluray of Slingblade where he talks about growing up there and how much he loves it and the people. They treat him like a normal guy, not a celebrity. The guy that owns the repair shop in Slingblade where Carl gets a job is actually a childhood friend of Billy Bob's and that was his first acting job. He recently died.

I am getting a familiar feeling about the movie adaption.....I will have a google, if its the one I'm thinking of I quite enjoyed it.

Yes! I have seen it, it gave me a mounting feeling of dread throughout, I really enjoyed it.
