I don't think Russia is being 'drawn' anywhere. They're likely pulling the strings backstage. I expect to see a lot more unrest through the region (not limited to Ukraine) now that the Olympics are over and the gloves are off. Russia expended a huge amount of resources to prepare, with little to show for it--people will be going hungry and homeless for decades after this debacle. They'll be looking to pick up resources cheap, and the former republics are easy places to 'mine' (so to speak). The relatively low attendance at the Olympics showed them that they don't have much to lose by alarming the West.

Could be, but Russia is front and center now that they have given Yanukovych refuge.

Scary situation for the Ukraine. It seems to me you have a country ripe for a civil war, unfortunately. There are a lot of pro-Russian areas still all over the country, but especially in the Crimea.

Yup, they're loud and proud now that they have no stake in playing nice. Keeping low key had to be hard or Putin--not his style at all.

Putin did do a good job putting on the happy face during Sochi when this unfolded. You can imagine what he must have been like out of the camera's eye.

This was on the CNBC website:

It was also reported that John Kerry warned Russia about "crossing the line". I just wonder if this is the same line that Obama warned Syria's Assad not to cross. We all know what happened then.

Yeah, stupid Obama. He should've gotten us involved in another war that isn't our business.

WTF does this have to do with Obama? He is from Africa remember? Why do you think we are the World's Police force? that is specious, silly and arrogant and a

WTF does this have to do with Obama? He is from Africa, not eastern bloc Europe...

Contrary to popular belief amongst the right, we are not the world's police force and this nation is so much more than the military. Some things just aren't our business and not worth killing our own people to make some silly tough guy point about whatever political nonsense seems so important.

Also, a wiser man than myself once told me that every conflict this nation enters, every time the drums of war get beaten upon, every mobilization of this giant monster we call the military, this nation and the generation involved gets set back countless years as to where we could be and could go. The idea that us blowing some sh!t up somehow equals American progress is beyond specious.

Actually I lied, the man wiser than me was me 5 minutes ago...

BTW, what happened then was the GOP made it about Benghazi somehow, just spouted more critical, with no counter solution offered, nonsense as usual and the consensus among the public was "NO WAY". So he followed the will of the people and pursued non-military avenues. Without support in the Middle East, that is pointless, just like trying to pursue this with the Ukraine is pointless without Russia on the same page as us.

Again, we need to stay OUT of this.

Since it's considered an uncontested arrival, I guess it's a green light for Putin to utilize some kinetic military action.

Speaking from a tactical perspective, I would hate to fight the Russians on their own southwestern border. They could resupply arms and troops within hours. That would bog down in a hurry. I think this is Putin's push. Same story as always, we're sending in troops to protect our citizens. The next step will be the Ukranian government has asked for Russia's "assistance" with peace keeping duties. It's and old song, used by the U.S. in Vietnam, the Russians in Afghanistan. The appearance of legitimate occupation of a sovereign nation is the first stage in implementing your own agenda in that country.

After the dust has settled and Mother Russia is once again rocking in her chair, perhaps the world leaders can find some Common Ground and begin to dictate the nutritional values of the Ukrainian school children. Food and the e-cigarette...hot topics here in the States...and a win-win situation should they huddle amongst the masses and come to an agreement.

    Or here's a thought:
    Bush operated Guantanamo...Obama operates Guantanamo.
Bush had something going on, weapons to Mexico...Obama sent weapons to Mexico
Bush stopped Putin in Georgia in 2008...with the threat of a military confrontation...Obama sent a gay-delegation to Sochi.

    Or:
Obama made fun of Christians...clinging to their guns and religion.
Obama made fun of Uncle Joe....who might watch Fox News.
Obama could make fun of Putin...perhaps his speech writers are coming up with one-liners?

Wait--did I miss something? I'm completely offline Fri-Sun night (usually). Are we actually doing something so completely insane as sending in troops? What a terrible, terrible idea. NO ONE WINS IN RUSSIA. EVER. Unbeatable on their home soil, and the Ukraine is as good as.

Bush backed Putin down in 2008 with the threat of military action. Obama lacks the backbone for anything more than playground bullying.

Obama's reaction to Putin's sending in troops to the Crimea area of the Ukraine: Don't do it or else. Of course, there's no "or else" contemplated.
