Who knows what they want? Perhaps someone died with unfinished business and wants to make it known or by murder and is trying to get someones attention. No clue. But listen to what your 'quiet voice' or gut says.
Today the elevator was a good girl. Yes, i have decided that it is feminine. I even said it aloud in the elevator when she started to move that "you are a good girl". You could almost hear the approving sound when the machinery started to work. Positively a pur.
...and sometimes you get the shaft...
This elevator... It absolutely has to be petted and talked to before it does anything. Today it went down with no problem at all. And i said "You are a Godd girl" to it. So it worked. On the way home i had a rather delicate problem, or indelicate if you will. I had to go to the bathroom. So i forgot to say "You are a good girl" to it. It didn't move a centimeter. And there i stood with the needs growing. Then i remembered after pressing a few buttons without result. I said the magic words and don't you know what happened.? She immediately startted to cooperate and went up. But it was a close call in the end. That elevator is teasing me!!!
Good luck Kurben! I am glad you found a way to work with the elevator, however, I am laughing picturing your neighbors getting on the elevator as you are talking to/petting "her"!
Sitting here & the DVD case for Her caught my eye. I wonder… 
Fortunately that hasn't happened yet. Who knows what might happen? To paraphrase Richie "Someone send for the men in the white coats. Kurben has finally passed the line". They might think i'm crazy and call the authorities. This elevator is out to get me. But she wont.

My elevator is behaving but only because i keep talking to her. I even stroke the walls of the elevator. And i always say Good Girl to her. Sometimes a little more elaborate. And no, it isn't a joke, i wish it was. But i think i'm going with rather safe than sorry and go on petting it. Am i Crazy?

It was a bit awkward today when, for the first time, i shared the elevator with someone else. It was, of course, a father and his little daughter. I did not say anything. Seemed inappropriate to say be a good girl or something then. They went of at floor 4 and of course the door refused. So i whispered be a good girl to her (the elevator, not the girl). I just hope they didn't hear. Anyway it started working again.
