Hey all! I know you crazy Kon'ers went to the Stanley in 2016 so I'm hoping for some advice, recommendations, etc. from you or anyone else who has made the trek. I'll be heading there in Sept for a short visit. Tops on my list is Estes Park Brewery but not sure what other sights we should see. We're not planning to stay at the hotel itself
but I'm guessing you can still do tours, roam? Really looking forward to it!

I've been twice but rented a room only once. They are very accomodating to tourists and sightseers. They allowed me to roam the hotel freely and unescorted. Even if you don't sleep there, you can eat at the restaurant and a waiter/bartender will serve non-guests on the porch. Estes Park is gorgeous. You won't be able to stop resting your eyes on those plunging mountains. I went in September and the weather was perfect. Hace fun.

Thanks everyone! I'm happy to hear that they're accommodating to non guests. I definitely want to see as much of the inside as possible and have at least one meal there. Not to mention getting served at the bar just once! :biggrin-new: We thought about staying there but it's not cheap and I'd rather spend my money elsewhere(the brewery) than a bed that I'll never be in anyway ;)

Doc, glad to hear the weather is nice in Sept!

Well, I'm a nature guy, and I would recommend a jaunt up through Rocky Mountain National Park, which is next door and all around Estes Park. Even just a drive over Trail Ridge Road. It's spectacular.

Be sure to take plenty of water/hydration (not coffee or carbonated beverages). People get "altitude sickness" - I did when I first visited here in my youth - but it's usually dehydration. Don't take this wrong, but... keep drinking.

I’ve been there twice, the last time two years ago or so. The first time I stayed in Room 418–very interesting experience. The second time we stayed in Room 217. Both times, we took the ghost tour with Scary Mary; both times it was great fun. She’s amazing, and I hope she’s still there. The whiskey bar is very cool, and my wife and I had a blast enjoying an old-fashioned absinthe fountain. There are elk everywhere, and my wife saw a big-horned sheep. Have a blast!

The Stanley is a Travelzoo Top 20 special this week .I just got the notification. $159 per night in November or December, which is pretty much when I'd want to go but I'll be in Prague, Budapest, and NYC at that time and then having a hysterectomy when I get back. Maybe I can find a way to have my surgery in Colorado and recover there. lol
Great deal. That's about half of what I paid when I stayed during peak season. No pun intended.

Prague and Budapest are two places I wanted to visit when I was younger. I think my interest began after seeing the Bourne films and the Mission Impossible films. May I ask why you want to visit?

Nothing in particular. Basically, I just love Eastern Europe. I love the weather, the food, the architecture, all of it. Finding out I have Eastern European roots just fed the desire to see it all.
