I've always liked the talk show attire King always favors. Jeans, T-shirt, and the ubiquitous velcro orthopedic shoes. He used to occasionally wear a sports jacket, depending on the venue, but has settled into the 'just folks' outfit that wins him a lot of admirers. To me, it's all-American and reminds us just how humble he is. Besides giving millions to charities, he has kept to his humble roots. When you put aside the few luxury homes he's purchased (deservedly so and well earned), which ironically were meant to maintain a normal and safe zone for his family, he has lived the simple life. Coaching little league, spending time at his summer cabin, going to the grocery store, etc.
I suppose this is what endears us to our favorite writer. His affable, down-to-earth persona will be remembered along side his keen storytelling abilities, I think. What does everyone think about this? Any opinions?

...I fully agree....he remains "just folks", and given his worldwide fame-it's one hell of an accomplishment....

I can't imagine what it must be like to have to have a "public" persona, but there is something to be learned from those who retain the strength of character to be who they are amid ceaseless pressure to be as others might wish to perceive them.

I have never met Steve. I have been in the same room (or arena, if you prefer) as he was when I went to see him on his tour for Lisey's Story and Bag Of Bones. I have seen him on numerous talk shows and venues of that ilk. I have read what others have said about him and it's always the same- he is one of the most down-to-Earth world-famous unassuming people you will ever meet. His net worth is in the hundreds of millions of dollars and yet it hasn't seemed to have affected him at all, other than he probably sleeps better than he did when he and Tabby were living in that single-wide trailer in the woods of Maine, now knowing that he has the money, should tragedy strike, to take care of himself and his loved ones. He deserves everything he has attained, be it the money, the recognition of his peers and the fame. His mother did good raising him.

And privacy. He doesn't owe us anything. He has paid us in full with his wonderful stories. He shouldn't have to be a dancing bear for our entertainment.

I like his sense of humour and the fact he is still married to his wife after all these years. Just so grateful to have discovered him as a writer so long ago and then was brought here by his novel 11/22/63 a few years ago. This SKMB is a great gift to all his fans.
