I am yet to read the talisman, I've been getting closer with each new book I start. This time I picked it up, read a few lines and put it back down and started duma key. From what I understand I have quite a journey waiting for me when I'm ready to take it.
Love The Talisman. One of my top ten.

At least when you stopped reading the greatest book SK ever wrote, you picked up the 2nd greatest book he ever wrote. ;;D

Get Jake, Jack, the Losers, the kids from The Body, all of em off on a big epic train track quest from Castle Rock into Mid-world to kill another It or something. 3000 pages. Total geekpocolypse. That's what I want for Christmas.
We have had some very sad time. John's passing took a chunk of my heart. Same with Sharon and Mary. Remember the memorial party where we got together and got smashed online? My weren't we the cat's ********. We were hung over.

Took me a while to get there, too. When you are ready you will love it.

I'd like to read this one again, along with Insomnia, Roadwork, Desperation, and Four Past Midnight.
I loved The Talisman because it was very difficult to predict what was coming. I loved the story and Jack's life or death quest.

I wonder why The Talisman was so not well recieved when it came out, could it have maybe have had soemthing to do with the "Greast Horror Novel" promotional stuff?
This came out before I started working for Steve, or reading his books for that matter, so wasn't aware that it didn't do well. My guess would be that it really is more of a fantasy novel than pure horror and there is a certain element of his fans who aren't accepting of his ventures into other genres.

I don't know that I'd say it wasn't well received when it came out. From Wiki:

According to Publishers Weekly, the final sales figure for The Talisman in 1984 was 880,287 copies. The original hardbound edition spent 12 weeks as #1 on the New York Times Best Seller List with a total of 23 weeks in total on the list. Publishers Weekly listed it as #1 for 11 weeks, with a total of 26 weeks on the list.
