A monster in Van Meter Iowa? Well apparently something very strange happened in late September and early October of 1903 in this small Iowa town. This story was featured in the TV Show "American Monsters" and a new book titled "The Van Meter Visitor" was published in May of 2014 with 3 co-authors. From eye witness descriptions, this monster sighting parallels several other American monsters namely The Mothman and the Jersey Devil. The following is one of many on-line threads that will tell you more. I chose this thread because it originated in the UK:

The unsolved mystery of the Van Meter Visitor - a winged creature with a glowing horn that caused terror in an Iowa town 110 years ago | Mail Online

If you're going to Van Meter you may as well stop by the Bob Feller Museum. Rapid Robert was only a monster if you were trying to get a hit off him.
