Hoss, have you read the last couple? AAARRRRGH! I don't see them until the GNs come out, but I caught the gist of the last couple when looking for the info on the Survivor Guide. HOW STUPID CAN THEY BE?!?! I want to slap Rick and all of the Alexandrians!
Yes I am current with them.
I think the current story line in the comics is somewhat akin to the one being entered on the TV show in that it's somewhat beyond anyone's control and they have no choice but to deal with it. Some could say that perhaps they kicked the hornet's nest with Negan and the Saviors, but once they encountered The Hilltop, it was only a matter of time before Negan showed up at their gate with Lucille.
I did see the episode last night as some "course correction" in the diverged story lines. it will be interesting to see where it goes from here and how they dance around the comics.

Negan is a fool...

...for allowing any one of them to live. Sure he might be able to keep them in check for a time, but they will only be biding time waiting for an opportunity. The group are proven survivors, ruthless and brutal at times, and been able to overcome every adversity thrown at them. Who doesn’t think one of the Rick’s group won’t eventually be sitting in some vantage point, with a high powered rifle and scope, just waiting for Negan to enter their crosshairs?

Maybe so..
but he sure took a lot of the guts out of the group, killing Glen and Abraham, abducting Daryl, and essentially unmanning Rick..looks like the ladies and Carl are going to have to step up to get Rick going again, and of course there is always Carol and Morgan out there in the weeds somewhere..Negan needs to get skinned with a dull deer antler by Maggie and Sasha for what he did to their men..

As hard as last night's episode was, it was necessary to move the story forward. There is always a risk of a show stagnating and becoming predictable if the core group is always there at the end of every dire situation. I think it was good, it pulled fans closer to the ones who survived, ensuring that said fan base will be there for the long haul. On that note I was very happy to hear that season 8 has been confirmed before season 7 even began. Great news for the fans.

good to see Daryl kick off when odds were against him - I was hoping they weren't all going to sit there and watch without reaction - go out in a blaze of glory is what I reckon , try and take a few with them. would I sit there and take it ?? dunno but I now wear my WWDD bracelet ready for any bad guy with a bat

Thank you Walking Dead for continuing to be real and not pulling punches. Brutal, hard to take, but necessary for what is to come. Get ready folks. The ride will be amazing!
Thank you! I thought this was a pretty brilliant episode, for all that it was difficult to watch. The main character in any show has to have continued character growth, and at this point nothing but
tremendous violence and a complete take down would change Rick
.

Seriously, if you are not current with the comics, do NOT open this!!!!
The death of Glenn in the comics creates a resolve that carries them through the All Out War thread against the Saviors. if not for witnessing such cruelty, the broken version of Rick that survives would never be able to lead by influence as he does. This leads to the true desire for peace among most of the survivors, and the hope that the old world, or something like it can be rebuilt. The role Negan plays in this is at first the catalyst and then the constant reminder of how easy it is to become cruel and complacent about the value of the few lives left on earth. He does provide some fantastic comic relief throughout though.

LOLOL! Nah, on The Talking Dead
they showed him joking around about it with Michael in the make-up trailer. In fact, that's where that still/screen shot comes from.

I blame Jesus.
He had every opportunity to warn Rick and crew explicitly about Negan, his empire, and what he could do, and didn't. Rick needed to be derailed from his descent into psychosis, dragging Carl down with him, but not like this. And then, there was the recurring Polaroid motif, Glenn and Maggie, the satellite base crew quarters with the bloody snapshots, and finally one of Negan's bunch taking that shot of Abraham as they walked away.

There were many nods to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in last night's episode. The smear on Rick's face is similar to the blood smear on the hitchhiker's face. The Polaroid pictures the guy took of the mutilated bodies is another hitchhiker reference. The head bludgeoning is an obvious one. A man in Negan's bunch is seen holding a chainsaw. And the ending vaguely resembles the movie ending, driving away from an unspeakable horror and glancing in the rear view mirror. Many eye close-ups, too (but not as zoomed as in the film). Am I missing any others?
