They were guards that do not carry weapons. Oh well, the pay is not good enough to put up a fight anyway lol. They arrested the guy in British Columbia...so he did not get far.

The Royal St. John's constabulary in Newfoundland was not armed either until :
As a result of the recommendations of the Select Committee on the Arming Policy of the RNC, members on operational duty were permitted to wear sidearms starting June 14, 1998.[5]Previously, members were required to keep all firearms secured in the trunk of the police cruiser and were only deployed with permission from the Chief.

Very little crime in Newfoundland my lovey. You have to visit there. You will think you landed in Ireland. All the glamour of the UK without much of the troubles lol. If you feel kinda European, you can take a ferry 1 hour trip to St. Pierre...just off the coast ...it is part of France. All that culture without leaving North America.

...marvelous, but bucolic or not-it just worries me that they had no sidearms....though you must understand I get a great deal of that from where I am employed...
