Hi everyone,

Just introducing myself to the forum, been a long-time reader/lurker so I thought I'd take the plunge and actually sign up and take part.

First SK book I read was 'It', not long after it was originally released - I think it must have been 87/88 because I remember seeing it on the shelf of our school bookshop (posh school, what can I say?) and something drawing me to what I still think of as the definitive cover - the two eyes staring out of the drain while Georgie's boat floats down towards the hole and the red balloon bobs about in the side of the frame. I would have been about 13 at the time and I think I can thank that book not only for a lifetime of reading SK books (and I turned 40 last year) but also horror novels and films in general. I've only recently converted my wife to the cause - convinced her to read 'Under The Dome' and she's been hooked ever since. (She's just finished 'Salem's Lot').

I've just taken the plunge and started reading the first Dark Tower book after shunning the whole series so far, not being a fan of fantasy novels and such... It's OK I guess but not really grabbing me, probably about three quarters of the way through. Should I persevere, constant readers?

Should I persevere, constant readers?

It gets better - much better!
Welcome to the SKMB

OK folks, I'm definitely convinced. Will report back (probably on the Dark Tower thread?) intermittently.

Thanks for the very warm welcome!

..."plunge"...everybody says "plunge"....so it's either truly a word pool in which we swim...or we just need a bigger one of these...

Keep going its truly worth it. I messed the journey up to begin with and read the fourth book first and its still my entry into Rolands word. It truly is abut the journey though and you will be caught up in the wind that blows.

OK - finished the book at the weekend. I do feel it got stronger as it went on, and it was left as a classic cliffhanger. I will certainly get 'Drawing of the Three' and see where that takes me. Thanks for the welcomes, recommendations, and encouragement, all!
