I hate to say it,but I'm kinda let down with the revival series a bit. There does appear to be some good aspects about it,but the monster episodes have been straight up weak by putting too much emphasis on comedy. Whatever happened to the dark ones like the leech man,Toombs, beyond the sea etc etc. It seems to me like the monster episodes we got were way too comical :(

Just seen ep.3. It was good, to a point. I never really did like The X Files when it took the pee out of itself (and by extension, the audience...at least IMO) even if there were plenty of good/funny moments. I thought it undermined the better humour with a little too much daftness overall, though.
However, there was the supplies cupboard scene. Lucky bleeder...and I don't mean her!
The g/f loved it, though. Then again, some of her favourite eps were the funnier/dafter ones (her favourite from the original run was the one with the vampire pizza delivery kid...iirc Mulder got plastered and was singing the theme from Shaft at one point, though that might be from another of her faves; I forget), while mine were some of the better 'Monster of the Week' eps (the one with the Flukeman; the one with the weird locust-thing; X-Cops; Darkness Falls (I think; the one with the yellow mites that had escaped from a felled tree) to name a few).
On balance I don't know whether I want there to be more after these 6 eps or whether it'd be better to let it rest in peace.
Mulder's bit about being a middle-aged man feeling like he's wasted the best part of his life rang true for me as well as for him...though I had a laugh at the "Most of the unexplained has been explained" line.

Is anyone else worried they are going to make Einstein and whats-his-face the new Scully and Mulder and that this was just a way to ease us all into a " new" Xfiles? It has conspiracy written all over it! Or.....I could just paranoid.............

There are articles stating Carter desires to continue the series- dependent on the actors schedules and availability, and if the network is willing to continue. Have not seen anything from the actors stating that they desired to continue the series. The truth is out there--- somewhere!

This series was a big pile of 'MEH' for me. Two blah eps, two godawful eps, one pretty good ep, and a ridiculous and insulting to the intelligence ending. I'd forgotten: when X-Files was on point it was good, but when it was bad it was AWFUL. I have a friend who suggested they 'George Lucas' Chris Carter and refuse to let him write any scripts. His are generally the worst.

Finished watching the last of the six new X-Files episodes. Bottom line, glad I got to see new Mulder and Skully again acting as you'd expect them to after a few years...
About the ending. Well, I suppose it was written that way to make the series watchable again and to allow us all to keep whatever conclusions we'd already come to after all these years of watching the show. I like the image of Mulder and Skully together and especially of Skully looking up. If you think about it, they did give fairly concrete answers with the smoking man...but I am not geeky enough to have all the previous plot lines and stuff mapped out somewhere so I dunno about all the consistency and such. All in all I enjoyed it. Glad they made a reappearance!!

Just got to ep4.
The one where Scully's mom dies.

Not a bad ep, just a bit thin.
The thing that spoilt it most for me was the over-used 'William' showing up on Scully's phone. Yeah, he's been on her mind before, but it seemed more like she was having a breakdown than producing genuine questions. And she even knows where the kid is (or at least was) because wasn't she the one who dropped him at the place out in Wyoming? (Or wherever that place was meant to be.)
Sure, it'd be tough knowing you had to stay away to keep him safe, but...it's been 15 years! Regrets, yes. All this obsessive stuff? Not so sure.

If there are to be more eps, I'd still want it to be Mulder and Scully. That is the core of the X Files (or perhaps Mulder is; the show did lose something once David Duchovny left, even if I wasn't one of the people who hated Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish coming in). The idea of replacing Duchovny and Anderson as the leads did fail in the original run, though, and that should be a pointer that it would do so again.
Especially if you call a character Einstein. How can that ever not go down the route of being played for laughs, intentionally or otherwise?

Still, two more eps to go, including a finale that I already know is much-derided.

Right, that's that done, then.
I was expecting the hate and detest the finale, but I didn't actually. It could have been so much better - internal logic seemed to have taken a holiday, especially in relation to CSM's seasons-long masterplan - but there you go. It's what you get for filming first drafts, I guess. (And if it wasn't a first or maybe rough second draft, then...whut?)
The one I really was disappointed in was Ep5. I said before that even when the X-Files sucked, it didn't. Well, can I take that back? One certain sequence apart, Ep5 was 50-ish minutes of 'Oh do me a favour...' TV. And I really hope the inclusion of Einstein (what a mistake! How badly do you want to misname a character?) and Miller isn't/wasn't supposed to be some kind of passing of the baton. Why pass it anyway? Gillian Anderson is around 46-47, while Lauren Ambrose is 38 (I checked). Not a huge difference, and hardly the stuff 'next generation' things are made of. David Duchovny can still handle action scenes believably enough, too, so again, why change? If D&A want out after all, fine...but let the show end with them.

About the finale: I don't really get why Annabeth Gish was dragged back, because that little story went nowhere really. And she hadn't changed much. That was X File-worthy in itself. Alien DNA indeed.
But if one - and Reyes was the lesser character, tbh - why not the other? Or did they approach Robert Patrick only to be told to go away in a spasmodic fashion?

I'm glad they've decided to make six more episodes. I consider the first six a warm-up. And even Carter can shake off a weak turn at writing and rediscover his genius muse, because things like that don't just disappear like an EBE abductee ....

Not me. The X-Files is perpetually imitated. Why settle for an imitator when you can have the original? In music, Frank Zappa evolved through new creative phases constantly right up until the day he was struck down prematurely by cancer in his fifties. He was as much at his artistic peak then as he had ever been in his entire life. I'm not counting Chris Carter and co. out yet.
