Because I'm such a friendly guy. So I looked at a map in my Atlas, and I noticed there's a place in Maine named 'Auburn', I think it was in Maine. So I'll say that that place I would like to go too. I would also like to go to Somerset County, and Aroostook. I would also like to go to Portland. I was channel surfing about a month ago and the show, 'Who do you think you are?' was on-I missed the first fifteen minutes- but the person was the actress Helen Hunt. Later on she was up at Portland, talking to a lady at the Portland/Maine Historical Society in a brown building. They talked about Hunt's great-grandmother(?) how she was in the Temperance movement, because women were gettin jack of all their drunken seaman husbands and wharfies coming home drunk, most probably abusive, with no money most probably as well. The Temperance movement was a forerunner for the enactment of the 19th Amendment to U.S. Federal Constitution....quick retort here..."then why respond?".....

One of my daughters lives in Auburn. Not a lot to see there but about 20 minutes away you'll come to Lisbon Falls where Stephen went to high school and on Main Street you can get a look at the (now deserted) Worumbo Mill and still be able to drop into Kennebec Fruit, both sites from 11/22/63.Because I'm such a friendly guy. HI Jodie, here is a link regarding these caves, up near Millinocket. I really wanted to go. Next time!Ice caves?! I'm heading down from Canada so maybe I'll find them : )
Giant is referring to our resident Prison Yeti, GNTLGNT. The pizza reference was to when we were in Maine together in July 2013 for the King Kon get together. We went over to Arcadia National Forest one day. there are numerous seafood places everywhere there in the area. I had hand down the best seafood I've ever had up there. I live in Florida BTW. Anyway, there we are in Maine, a foodie's paradise, and the Giant chose pizza. Decent pizza, but just doesn't seem like something you go to Maine for. Now it's just another thing to give him crap for. All in good fun though. Much love amongst this group, even if we get heated in some areas.Btw I don't understand the giant/pizza reference?! Is it DT related? An Americanism?
No worries, you'll get the hang of it! Keep reading and posting. Sometimes these threads move fast, though, and I can't keep up either. So I feel your pain.Man I'm such a forum newb...I didn't realise there was a whole page of thread I missed! I was a bit confused about how the thread was going! Derp : /
Snooze you lose haha
From Wiki: (Shawshank--the prison is actually in Ohio)What's the book that he references the prison up north in Maine? I think it was in Aroostook? Was it Shawshank or was it the Green Mile?
It was the Shawshank that I was thinking of when Dufresne's been in jail for about ten years, and then this other prisoner arrives and says he shared a cell with this guy that told him that he killed the couple but the dumb husband took the rap. In the movie, they kill the guy. In the book, Governor Norton offers him a cushy stay on a prison farm up north.(If I'm remembering right?) I think he meant up in Aroostook. Growing vegetables, maybe even seeing your sweetheart on the weekends. From Wiki: (Shawshank--the prison is actually in Ohio)
"In 1947 Portland, Maine, banker Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences at the fictional Shawshank State Penitentiary in rural Maine."
The Green Mile:
"The setting for Cold Mountain State Penitentiary is inspired by Louisiana State Penitentiary, although unlike in the book, Louisiana only installed the electric chair in 1938, while the book is set in 1932.
