Haha! that's great! mind I can see why she was not amused, at least there will be no folded pages
Never a folded page in her books. I'm not even allowed to open a Stephen King novel until she has officially 'broken the spine' by opening the book, even though I'm the one who goes out and purchases all of them. Our youngest borrowed one of her King novels (Misery) to read, and destroyed the dust cover. It was not a pretty picture in our house when my wife got it back. The kid may never read Stephen King again.

Any new book / remove dust cover, replace with stretchable book cover. Read and enjoy/ replace dust cover.

My brother suffered the same fate after borrowing my copy of 11/22/63..

Makes sense to me, but not to her. She's a King purist. Novel has to be the way it is... no changes... no slickers. And a King book without it's dust cover is like a wagon without springs. She once spilled something on a page in Pet Sematary and I had find her a replacement. Luckily I was able to replace a Book Club copy with a first edition.

If she will not add "protection" to her beloved SK books, then she must deal with, in a calm manner, the ill that can happen. Sippy cups when reading! ;)

do you still have your feet?!
Yeah, but I’m not walking as fast as I used to. I’ve been secretly building up a collection of King hardcover novels I find at thrift stores and have hidden them in my side of the garage... in the event one of our kids or me accidentally ruin one of hers going forward. She recently found out about my stash and now wants to see them all in order to swap out for her more worn copies. I have about 20 of them. Once, when I got into big trouble, I acquired her a signed copy of TGWLTG from the Haven Foundation. Didn’t impress her. She said the only thing she really wants some day is a signed, and personalized to her, novel from the master himself. So began my quest here. A fools errand, apparently. :) If I ever do get one, I’ll put it in a safety deposit box, and only taken out in the event I ever get in really, really, really big trouble. :p
