I watched an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras once, and I stress once. The money those parents spend on those kids, and the stress they put them under is unbelievable. They seem to regard the children as objects to be paraded and have no regard for their feelings. They got angry and verbally abusive if the kids messed up their routines, and made ugly remarks about other kids. It was sickening!

...considering I work around society's scum...nothing much shocks me anymore...I have seen several of my associates(female nurses)lose their jobs for establishing relationships with and having sex with inmates!!!...they're worth 18 bucks a month-so it can't be the money...I truly don't understand the attraction, unless the bad boy mystique is that strong...so Mama Moron dating a diaper sniper, really isn't a stretch-considering the whole clan has at best, questionable DNA and compost for brains...look at Red Jacket Firearms and the sex abuse that went on there!....

Never watched the programme, don't watch much reality TV makes my skin crawl. Can't explain why you would want to get back together with a convicted paedophile, only thing I can think is that she is in total denial or that she just doesn't care about her kids and as long as she is getting what she wants is all that matters to her. Children should be removed for their own safety.

I feel conflicted about June's size being part of this story, but I think it probably isn't helping her to make good choices.

Not her size, necessarily, but the complete lack of self-confidence that seems to come with it.

For one, I think that may be why she's got her daughter in these pageants. I am not an expert on this family or child beauty pageants in general, but it doesn't take much digging to find that many moms are in this for the vicarious thrill of all of the things they never had as a child, or don't feel are worthy of now.

And the pageants aren't a problem, unless you have no ability to judge whether a person should be around your children. This seems to be an issue for Mama June.

Secondly, I think her weight comes in to play because she seems to be very needy, and again, lack self-confidence. I don't know her, but I know so many people like her that it's an easy pattern to recognize. :(

She doesn't get much attention, so when someone comes sniffing around it is very hard to turn a critical eye to his motives. No one wants to feel like they're being used or tricked, and pedophiles tend to be some of the most innocuous, smoothest talkers out there. Add his skill to her emotional need for him to finally be the one to fill that void in her life, and Honey Boo Boo doesn't stand a chance.

I am a bigger lady, and I know that we are complex beings. We are not all wallowing in shame while we drown our pain in cheesecake and KFC. So, I don't want to make these generalizations about June. I don't know her, and it's hard to talk about this stuff because I feel like we of the Chunky Sisterhood need to stick together.

But, I also know how the world treats us, and there aren't really many of us who feel okay (I'm not saying fierce or proud, just okay) with filling the physical space we occupy. I would be surprised if June wasn't in a bad place regarding her desirability or whether she even deserves to be loved and happy.

Does that mean the choices she's making are acceptable? No. H€ll no, even. I think Sisterfriend needs a whole lot of therapy, and a good hard look at her priorities, before the next generation falls right into the same pit she's in.

I do not think it is her size that folks take issue with but her stupidity. There are many attractive bigger women.

:sigh: This is one of the reasons that I left my hometown for the "city". I know people who look and act like this family. When I was in college, I was studying photography and decided to try and make some extra money offering to photograph contestants for a local fair beauty pagent. My only previous experience was high school pagents, that were pretty tame. This blew my mind!

There were more levels than I could imagine, starting from about 6 months old. There was one "professional", who at 3 was upset that I didn't have more props for her photo shoot. The moms were so obnoxious. I did the photos, delivered the packages and vowed to NEVER watch a pagent again. Not even Miss America.

I hope that because this family is in the news, that officials will have to remove the children. As someone else said, if they hadnt' been in the spotlight, little chance that anyone would try to intervene.

So sad.

Once again Jen you have taken the thoughts right out of my brain. As one who joins you in the Chunky Sisterhood I agree that June probably does have a lot of self worth issues behind her actions. Sad, but I hope that she will be able to see past that to help her youngest daughter.
