On second thought....no one has offered us cookies, or chocolate, or Johnny Depp yet......maybe we still have work to do!
I offered you Johnny Depp very early on in this thread and STILL you lovely members keep hijacking after I've met your demands!!! Come on people, I SCORED big at a used bookstore! This thread is about me and my newfound obsession with SK books!!! Who's this Johnny guy? This is about the triumphs of your new friend and member, ECHO LOOPER!!! haha - T

Welcome, Echo Looper!!!
That was a really cool score you picked up at the bookstore.....I stand in awe of you, my new friend. My favorite SK stories are 'Salem's Lot, Pet Sematary, and The Shining. You'll find all manner of lively discussions on his novels in the written works section of the board.....Did I say Welcome?! =D

Hello there!

I'm "Echo Looper". I'm new to the forum and just recently dove head first into the King Universe (multi-verses). When I was in high school, I read The Eyes of the Dragon and loved it. For some reason I stopped there. ( I'm a busy touring musician & usually recording/listening to music) My reading was limited to music biographies and the occasional astronomy book...I'm now in my 30's and picked up the Salem's Lot paperback on a whim. I fell back in love with reading fiction in big way through this tale. I decided to read Carrie and now working on 'IT'. 'IT' just called to me... Something about youth, fear, and growing up etc. It's a stunning book so far! Beautiful. All of this reading has reawakened some kind of youthful imagination and has spurred new creativity in myself.

Okay my question is -what is the best way to collect old SK hardcovers in your opinion(s)? I'm checking craigslist, eBay and goodwill stores. My goal is to read & own all of his books -hardcovers if possible. I want to have my own glorious bookshelves to show off like many of you here in the forum :)

Also do any of you recommend a certain reading order knowing what I've read so far?

My plan is to read The Shining, NightShift, On Writing, and Dr. Sleep next. Good idea or bad idea?

Thank you so much and very excited to hear your responses, I know this was a long introduction. I wrote a novella.. Just in love again with the written word ...

Cheers, T aka Echo Looper
Sounds like a good idea. Try to put Pet Senetary on the list too. A very scary tale. And read Doctor Sleep after The Shining since its a sequel. Otherwise I dont think the order matter much. Except the dark Tower series of course. They should be read in the right order.

I saw what is/was probably a 1st edition of The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon...today...at a high school library book sale. I bought some cookies, instead. Nuts, craisens, egg, oatmeal, if it matters...nine of them for three bucks. I think the book would have been...75-cents? Picked up a handful of other stories. This is the cookie thread, right? :)

Welcome to the site, T. I think all of those places you've mentioned would be good for collecting Steve's work and I don't think you need an order particularly, (sequels aside) just go with what feels right. Check out the StephenKing.com Library when you get a chance, lots of good info' there. :)
Thanks for the advice. Yes I have my browsers bookmarked to that SK library page! Excited to read Shining and Doc Sleep next- cheers!! T
