Two things here:

I don't think the How the Grinch Stole Christmas should be on before Thanksgiving. Of course, they run these things more than once now, so I guess that's just more of me being an old stick in the dry mud and ...

Am I misremembering, or wasn't the annual showing of The Wizard of Oz in the springtime, back when television was simpler?

You're correct - The Sound of Music, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Wizard of Oz were all Easter movies.

I remember Wizard of Oz being shown at both holidays.
I particularly remember it the Thanksgiving I was about 10. I was very sick that year, but HAD to watch Wizard of Oz--you only had the one chance to do so. I watched, but, boy was I sick.

Oh God - if I did them according to mood, I'd be a scrambled egg today.

Having Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving is just another nod to its ascendance as commercial day, not religious day, not goodwill-to-each-other day. It's become commercial for the sake of being commercial. I'm not saying that as a tragedy, but a fact. .A big chunk of our economy is built on it.

We're not putting up the Christmas tree or the lights till after Thanksgiving.
