I think there was a shift somewhere along the societal progression where cops stopped being peace officers and became tax collectors. I kind of resent that. I do not paint with broad strokes as I realize there are still a lot of good honourable men and women out in the world, it's just that this endless capital extraction ride we are on will eventually break.

What a lovely story!

There have been a rash of articles about families who have called the police for help with a family member who is mentally ill or special needs, only to end up with the officers shooting the person they were called to assist.

I know the vast majority of police officers are wonderful men and women, and that these incidents are anomalies, so I love to see stories where everything goes well. This is, I'm sure, why most people join up to start with, so they can help people. :)

In Toronto, its due to break in about another eight years, when our policing budget maxes out at 100% going towards police salaries and perks.

You are right; I too am quite happy when an interaction between the police and a civilian goes well.
