I have been on the board a bit now, Everybody talks about anything that intersts them. but what i havent seen(this could be on a very early thread) is Travel - vacations and holidays. Is anyone going this year? Where in the world would you love to go to.

I have been travelling since I was 10, Canada. I been to spain *2 , sardina, Paris, seen most of ireland. I did the inter-rail and saw a few cities during the day, by night, i was immersing myself in the good oul irish tradition and refreshing oneself with alcoholic beverages. Yes, i was practically durnk every night of the Inter-rail. Hey i'm irish. i would love to go the Peru - the Aztecs or is it Inca, sites, I would l ove to see whatever remains of the 7 wonders of the world. China to see the soldiers buried in the grave and the great wall. I would love to see the Nordic countries especially the Aurora borealis (disambiguation) In Norway. I would love to go to Christchurch to get our revenge on a brillant rugby side that should have being beaten by us. Want to head to oz to see Sydney harbour and see Ayer's rock. In N.Z, the Maoris don't shake hands, they rub your nose with their nose. If i am wrong correct me Flake noire I know many of you have families and have jobs, so you couldn't go where you wanted. but if you won the lotto would you go. I would love to pack in the rat race, F*** programming and just take off around the world for a year.

For anyone who is interested in new cultures, read any book on travel by Micheal Palin(a former Python head) He has travelled North/south poles, russia, brazil. just read any of his books if you like travel. they are easy reads dappled with a sense of humour.

"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for Travel for travel's sake". Quote by R.L. Stevenson who had to go to sunnier climates to heal his illness. 1878.

"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for Travel for travel's sake".

I love the trip (no, not that one). I love knowing I'm going somewhere; the destination itself a different enjoyment. I love getting on and being on the road, or in the air (unless I'm supposed to be on the road). I look forward to whenever I finally arrange my next train ride somewhere, anywhere.

As for where I dream of traveling, I start with Ireland, a goal I assume attributable to my ancestry. I'd love to see the Eiffel Tower, and the Leaning Tower. I've already seen the Dark Tower. =D

This is right, the Hongi is a very spiritual greeting.

I have been to:

Paris
Calais (school day trip - 55 kids + ferry trip = disaster!)
Tenerife
Spain (Benidorm & Tossa de Mar)
Gran Canaria
Germany
Dublin
Cyprus

Places I would love to go, so much so that it hurts my heart:

Egypt - I would love to do a tour, starting with a stop at Cairo to see the Pyramids. Alexandria for the museum. Then onto Luxor, see the Valley of the Kings/Queens. The onto see the Aswan Dam.

New Zealand - I love the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit films & would love to go & see all the film locations, plus all the set that was left behind. And I am also a big fan of Crowded House :)

Japan - Tokyo followed by the country, taking in the gardens & temples.

Tennesse - Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry + Memphis/Graceland.

Vienna - would love to go in December for the Christmas markets, its meant to be magical.

Rome - full of history

And a book that made me want to drop everything & tour Ireland:

McCarthy's Bar: A Journey of Discovery in Ireland: Amazon.co.uk: Pete Mccarthy: Books

I think a few people might be headed to Ohio later this summer for a little Shawshank fun.

I've been a bunch of places around Europe and the US. Just got back from Ohio myself recently. Other summer plans include a trip to visit my granddaughter (see pic) for her third birthday, and a stint at Mechacon in New Orleans right after that.

Egypt is a very dangerous place to go, but i would like to see Valley of the Kings.
Dublin is VERY expensive. I don't know how much a pint is in the Uk, but in a pub it's 5 Euro and in the city centre about 6.50
I have been to Berlin and let's just say me and the People in authority had a minor argument.
Munich
Vienna ah vienna The spanish riding school. The third man. the ferris wheel was on that.
Rome, yes I saw the Colusseum. what most people don't know is, you pay an entrance fee. to get an overview of the place, if you want to see more, you pay more. Rome is VERY,VERY WARM i would say 30 degress. As we normally, have the same weather you will find yourself, drinking water/coke or whatever every 5 minutes.

I would like to see the Canadian rockies and do a sort of inter-rail across the states, Start in NY and end up in San Fran.
I would love to see Oz and New zealand
Japan
Africa a safari.

I was in Paris and my Friend Paul, had a rather interesting and challenging idea. We walk up the Eiffel tower and we did. Now to get to a certain level you pay, but to get further you had to pay more, er us being students chanced our arm with one instead of two tickets. we got away with it. The view is unbelievable.

If you are going to come to the 'oul country' try Wicklow,(the Garden of Ireland) or Kerry(ring of kerry- beautiful)
I have never seen the leaning tower of pisa, i think it is in florence and i was there but i was helping lovely young ladies cool themselves them by removing them from solid ground and immersing them in water.

It's in Pisa, not Florence. Was there last year as well as Florence, Rome, Milan, Lucca, and took the train to Genoa by mistake but got a lovely view of the Italian Riviera as a result.

My travel experience can be summed up by the Three Dog Night Song I've Never Been to Spain. As a navy brat, I zigzagged up and down and across the U.S. lots of times. I've lived in ten different areas of the country, went to eleven schools (more if you count community college and the university), and lived in thirty dwellings. So, to some extent, my wanderlust has been sated. I've been as far down in Mexico as Ensenada and as far north as Vancouver. I would like to travel to Europe someday but in my own way. I don't want to be the typical tourist, shuffling quickly from site to to site en masse, attempting to absorb as much as I can on a seven-day vacation. Either my brain would explode from trying to process so many new and exciting things at once, or much of it would simply go over my head because I'd be so overwhelmed.

Would be easier to list the U.S. states I have not been to at some point in my life which are Delaware, Alaska, Hawaii, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada. Admittedly some of the ones I have been to were just driving through very early in my life so have no memories of them. Have no particular interest in going to Alaska but would like to add all the others as part of my travel bucket list.

In Canada have been to Vancouver, Victoria, and we drove the TransCanada highway from Vancouver, B.C. to wherever it was we needed to head back down to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho—too many years ago to remember other than it took forever! Montreal and Toronto too many years ago to remember much about them. Drove from Bangor to Saint John, New Brunswick so saw all the towns along the way there. Still have Nova Scotia on my travel bucket list.

Almost forgot I’ve been to Nassau a few times—last time was in 1985 and was pregnant with my younger daughter so have told her she’s been to Nassau but she doesn’t think that counts! =D

Have been to London and Romsey, UK—from there visited Stonehenge and Avebury. Last November added Paris, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Ramstein AFB as well as Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Don’t know if being at Shannon Airport really counts but technically have been to Ireland and stood on Irish soil by being there for an hour or so in the Terminal while the plane refueled. And the 2 weeks in Italy previously mentioned.

Am hoping to someday make it to Australia and New Zealand. Would love to go to Egypt but far too dangerous these days. And would like to take a year to see more of the U.S.

Here, there and everywhere.
Before I met my husband I'd never been anywhere farther than Arizona to visit a friend. Since we've been married, we've been to:

Lots of Caribbean places
Mexico (Cozumel and Cancun)
Hawaiian islands (all but Lana'i)
Several towns in Alaska (on a cruise, but we're headed to Anchorage and Denali next year!)
Whistler, B.C. and Jasper, Alberta, Canada
Madrid and Toledo, Spain
Berlin and Goslar, Germany
Dublin, Ireland (loved Glendalough!)
London, England, and several little towns along the way to Lands' End
Paris, France
Hong Kong
Rome, Italy
New York
Boston
Colonial Williamsburg
San Diego
San Francisco
Rhode Island
New Hampshire
Vermont
Detroit
Tennessee
Cincinnati, Ohio

I've never seen New England in the fall - it is #1 on my bucket list. I also would like to see Scotland. I would love to see Australia and New Zealand, but after the flight to Hong Kong I promised myself I'd never take such a long flight again.

There is a trip I'd like to take, but it's not to any particular place. Do you remember the scene in "The Thorn Birds," when Meggie goes off by herself on an island (later to be joined by what's-his-name)? I have dreamed of doing something like that - whether quiet island or cabin in the woods, I think a week alone, talking to nobody and doing nothing, would be pure bliss.
