Here, there and everywhere.
I'd like to visit the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, some other U.S. sites. Got to see NYC last summer, the Empire State building and saw Times Square at night. Definitely want to do a train ride at some point.

We're headed to the Grand Canyon next month. It's something my husband has always wanted to see. Me, not so much. But usually when I have low expectations, the vacations are wonderful!

I rode Amtrak on a trip through the most beautiful scenery ever. I am so glad I did it. Took a long time, but the seats were huge recliners and the windows were practically floor to ceiling where you could lay back and just watch out. Loved it.

The Grand Canyon is amazing. When we went a few years ago I was excited to see it but thought having seen so many pictures of it, how interesting can it really be? I was amazed by it. It's enormity cannot be truly admired until you are there (I felt exactly the same in April when I saw Niagara Falls for the first time!). Not sure what kind of plans you have made, but my husband and I did this train ride to the Canyon. It was fun!

Agree 100% about the Grand Canyon. Someday I'd love to stay at Phantom Ranch to be able to see the view from the bottom up. If I was a lot younger or in much better shape, being able to do the rim to rim hike would be quite an experience.

No, not really. But before I, eh, ”settled down” I did a fair bit of traveling.
Went to NYC when I was seventeen. Flew over to Spain the year after (maybe, my memory is not clear on this). Was in Belfast when Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness signed the peace treaty, it was a tense day. Spent quite some time in southern England (Kent), also visited France for a bit during that time. Saw a lot of cockroaches in Poland after the eastern bloc imploded. Drank tea with Bedouins in the Negev desert, after which I badly needed a toilet. Almost threw up at one point after swallowing too much of The Red Sea in Egypt, where I also came down with the sh*ts by the way. Made an insanely Jameson-soaked journey to Denmark and then Germany, and then back to Denmark again (this is the one and only time in my life I have stolen food, I simply ran out of money). Took a boat to Lithuania, ate, did not get the sh*ts. Oh, yes, I also spent a week in Malta, where I befriended a bunch of ship workers from Libya. Cuba was also an incredible experience, met some wonderful people there. Bruselles, at least when I was there, had the not very flattering record of beggars living on the street. Beijing was intense, I loved the Chinese people, but the air was hard to breathe. After all the time I spent in Scotland (go Hamilton Accies!), I consider myself an honorary Scot. Went to the U.S.A a second time around and visited a good friend of mine who lives in Napa Valley, had a great time there.

The chronology got mixed up, and I am sure I've forgotten a lot of places (the 90's are a bit foggy). I kind of miss the days when I could just pack a bag and go, but I guess the traveling days are, if not over, then at least put on hold for a while.

My husband and I travel every year; sometimes within the US, sometimes to Europe. We have been to Italy 7 times in the last 12 or so years and plan on going back a number of times. We'll probably visit Italy every few years until we can no longer travel. We love the food, the people, the history, the art, etc. We've been north and south, but not to Sicily or any other island except for Capri. Not in any particular order, we've also traveled to Spain, England, Mexico, The Bahamas, Jamaica, California, Arizona and Hawaii. We live in NJ and have been up and down the east coast. We plan on moving to the Bay area in California in a few years, so we visit San Francisco at least once a year; my husband is originally from the Bay area and his family still lives there. We also love Las Vegas and travel there every few years as well.

I have been to:

Paris
Calais (school day trip - 55 kids + ferry trip = disaster!)
Tenerife
Spain (Benidorm & Tossa de Mar)
Gran Canaria
Germany
Dublin
Cyprus

Places I would love to go, so much so that it hurts my heart:

Egypt - I would love to do a tour, starting with a stop at Cairo to see the Pyramids. Alexandria for the museum. Then onto Luxor, see the Valley of the Kings/Queens. The onto see the Aswan Dam.

New Zealand - I love the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit films & would love to go & see all the film locations, plus all the set that was left behind. And I am also a big fan of Crowded House :)

Japan - Tokyo followed by the country, taking in the gardens & temples.

Tennesse - Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry + Memphis/Graceland.

Vienna - would love to go in December for the Christmas markets, its meant to be magical.

Rome - full of history

And a book that made me want to drop everything & tour Ireland:

McCarthy's Bar: A Journey of Discovery in Ireland: Amazon.co.uk: Pete Mccarthy: Books

I can't believe I'm going to post this, but here goes... :a11: When I read the part about your husband, I thought, "Wow, that's funny. Her name is carrie's younger brother, but she's a woman." Then I thought for a minute, and was curious about why you'd be someone's younger brother if you were a woman. Then I thought for another minute. (Nobody has ever accused me of being quick.) And then I had one of those Edith Bunker moments when I sorted it all out in my head and I was like, "Oh! Duh." :biggrin2:

San Francisco is one of my favorite places in the world. I would happily live there, if I could afford it!

I love it!!! Believe me, I still fine it odd to say I am married. I have to force myself to say/write it so that I get used to it. I'm 53 and I never thought I'd be married, so it's all new to me!
