I agree - I was satisfied, my Ogre felt like it was a bit rushed. I'm going to miss seeing those guys every Sunday. I don't find too many shows that I like this much.
I know what you mean. Eight episodes just isn't enough. But it was very good. I think that I'd like to buy the full season when it becomes available and watch it all as a movie.

Yes, it would have been great as a movie. Be sure and post here any of you when you hear who the partners will be for next season.

Well, I posted somewhere that I was going to read The King in Yellow. Well, upon doing some research I found out that only the first four stories (its a short story collection) actually mention the King in Yellow. Some of the others are supposed to be similar, however. What I did was read the four stories that mention the King in Yellow. They are good, but not necessarily what I expected. I will say though, that at first, I became quite obsessed.

I plan on reading some other things that have to do with Carcosa or the King in Yellow, though I'm not sure that I'm going to read anymore Robert Chambers stories.

I will check back in when I read some more.

I would say that, if you are interested at all in The King in Yellow, then Chamber's stories are good place to start.

Thanks for the info Chuggs - would you say they are scary? Very scary? I'm bummed that I won't be seeing Woody & Matthew this Sunday night. I stayed up late and watched The People vs. Larry Flynt last night - it was pretty good - I would have preferred to go my whole life without seeing Courtney Love naked, but other than that, it was good.

They weren't really scary at all...a bit creepy perhaps...but, they certainly could be scary in the hands of an author who wished to make them so...what I mean is, many authors write stories using The King in Yellow, and a good horror author could scare the crap out of us, if he/she wanted to. I think I am going to write one, once I finish the first draft of the novel I'm currently writing.

But the originals are good, don't get me wrong...just not that scary.

A lot of critics seem bitter to me, and many seem to think that they are above writers, actors, etc. Makes my skin crawl.

What makes them better and more insightful than anyone else? What makes them feel that they have a better feel for story, and better yet, life, than anyone else?

Again, makes my skin crawl.

(Not all are this way, but too many are.)

I totally understand what you're saying. I really enjoyed the show, the part I agree with was the fact the women characters were more props for the guys and weren't really interesting characters other than sex toys. BUT, as I also came to realize, and as Holly pointed out, I do think there was a method to this madness to show us how far off north their moral and ethical compass was, if that makes sense. This was very much a male driven partner series and I do think it was important to see everything through that good ol' boy lens.

I can't believe I just found this thread!

I think it's frustrating that all of these people are talking about women and True Detective. Why does everything these days automatically become bad if there isn't a perfect melting pot of diversity and every single character isn't fully fleshed out and "deep?" Who cares? It's still a good show! Let me enjoy it!!

It's annoying.

It was a male driven series, for sure.

I thought that the wife of Woody Harrelson was a very strong character. They didn't dig too deep, but she was quite the woman. She did some bad wrong, and she did some right...just like we all do.

Also, one of the best actors in this show was actually an actress. I'm talking about the young woman who was in the mental ward. That young lady had a very small part, but she nailed it. Gave me chills.

I loved it. I do wish there had been more episodes - maybe if there had been there would have been a female character to identify with. I didn't think Maggie was too shallow - she was a calming presence in all that chaos, driven to extremes by her hedonistic husband - there just wasn't time to show much about her story. Isn't she "us" - the women who raise the kids and make the beds and the dinner, and offer our bodies up to soothe the savage beast we married? That is a boring-ass role. I loved the dynamic between Rust and Marty. I agree with you, Chuggs, that the little girl who survived was just "WOW" in her bit part. I want more of the series for sure.
