Trying to remember.....

My 13 year old just started reading SK, as we were talking about his work I thought there was a novel that had a prolog with either an explosion or a sinkhole where a town or church picnic all died. I know one female character had an abusive husband and she ended up being the one that saved everyone. I am almost sure it's a King novel but not 100% sure. If anyone knows what I'm thinking of I would appreciate it

A group of children come together to fight a monster slaughtering kids in Derry on a 27 year cycle. They call themselves The Losers Club, and make a pact to return to finish the job as adults if needed.
Mike Hanlon is one member, who is interested in the history of Derry, and he tells the Club about an explosion at The Kitchener Iron Works Easter Egg Hunt in which 100+ children and adults are killed.
Beverly Marsh is central to the "fight", is the only girl in the group and she has both an abusive father and husband.

Kind of sounds like a mash-up of the short story Jerusalem's Lot (the church, but there isn't a sinkhole, just the hole the worm thing comes out of) and Rose Madder, with the abused woman.
