I may never qualify to be an astronaut, but I have met and spoken one-on-one with a real live astronaut in 2000 during the course of my workday as an Admin Assistant for a real estate broker... an astronaut who actually piloted one of the Space Shuttles.
I'll always remember him, our chat and how well grounded and "normal" he is for having done something few humans have done - Astronaut Bio: M. McCulley (10/2007) .
I also had the amazing opportunity to buzz the Shuttle Landing Strip at Kennedy Space Center at 500 feet in a Cessna after being granted rare permission by NASA Air Traffic Control in February of 2001. There were birds flying higher than the Cessna as we flew the length of the landing strip. It was an awesome rush, for sure!
