"I couldn't make a statement on Mr. King's state of humanity, don't know him well enough."

Actually the question was "What do you suppose his take on the state of humanity is"? but I think you have already answered that. Maybe I should have just stopped at "optimist or pessimist?"
:hmm:
....Or maybe I should read the question more carefully....I'm not too bright in case I haven't made that painfully clear in my time here...lol. I honestly don't know what Mr. King's take on the current state of humanity would be. He's got a very sharp mind and he seems to stay up to date on current events. If I were in his financial position I have to be honest, I really wouldn't have any opinion on the state of human affairs because I would be checked out on my ranch in Wyoming somewhere watching the mountains.

1. What are the chances of you and your friend/family members ever attending a King Kong? I'd like to but slim chance.

2. Do you use coupons at the grocery store/fast food restaurant etc.? No.

3. Did you ever get mad/upset with a noisy child to the point where you spoke to the parents about it (i.e. in a public place like a movie theatre/restaurant)? No.

4. Tell us about your worst/best travel experience. Lost in the woods for about 6 hours once.

5. If you work, are you happy at your place of employment and if so, how long do you think you will continue to work there? I'm not happy selling my time but I need the money. Happy to be working.

6. Pick one (if you had a choice) - win the lottery and share it with family/friends or give most of it to charity once all your most important needs are met? A mix of both but if I had t pick one it'd be Family/Friends.

7. Would you find it hard to delete your Facebook account? If you don't have an account, skip this question or write n/a. N/A.

8. What kind of undies do you wear? Knickers for those who are in NZ, Australia, Ireland, England, Scotland etc. Boxers.

9. If you are married, how long has it been and did you have a small or large wedding? Common law for over thirty years, never saw the need for God/Government approval. I guess a get together would be nice. I'll ask my lovey if she maybe wants to.

10. Do you think Stephen King is an optimist or a pessimist and what do you suppose his take on the state of humanity is? A guarded optimist. I think deep down he sees the fall of Rome all over again.

1. What are the chances of you and your friend/family members ever attending a King Kong? Never, can't fly on planes anymore. So, he'd have to come to Australia. I saw him at Dymocks in Sydney back in 1997.

2. Do you use coupons at the grocery store/fast food restaurant etc.? No.

3. Did you ever get mad/upset with a noisy child to the point where you spoke to the parents about it (i.e. in a public place like a movie theatre/restaurant)? Yes, I was sitting outside at a coffee shop and this mother was letting her kid run around and it bumped in my table and my coffee was spilt and I said something like, 'Can't you put it on a lead?'

4. Tell us about your worst/best travel experience. Stuck at a train station in Sweden in February, minus 12 degrees and I'm all wrapped up and shivering.

5. If you work, are you happy at your place of employment and if so, how long do you think you will continue to work there? No and five years.

6. Pick one (if you had a choice) - win the lottery and share it with family/friends or give most of it to charity once all your most important needs are met? I'd arrange it so the family will be alright without making them lazy individuals. I'd donate to things like 'Kids with cancer' and some environmental groups.

7. Would you find it hard to delete your Facebook account? N/A

8. What kind of undies do you wear? Boxers. I used to wear traditional 'Y' fronts, but my father said they can give you testicular cancer, so now I wear boxers.

9. If you are married, how long has it been and did you have a small or large wedding? Not anymore, it was at the registry office.

10. Do you think Stephen King is an optimist or a pessimist and what do you suppose his take on the state of humanity is? Didn't he say recently that he thinks the human race will be lucky to be around in a thousand years? Didn't he say that as he has gotten older he believes 'badness' comes from within the human condition and not from some outside source? I think he's an optimist, but knows that if things keep going along as they are now, they'll be a reckoning.

1. What are the chances of you and your friend/family members ever attending a King Kong? I'd say very good. :) I have every intention of being at the one in Colorado next Summer! I CAN'T WAIT!

2. Do you use coupons at the grocery store/fast food restaurant etc.? Not usually, I'm too lazy to hunt for coupons...

3. Did you ever get mad/upset with a noisy child to the point where you spoke to the parents about it (i.e. in a public place like a movie theatre/restaurant)? Nope, kids will be kids. They are often noisy. I know mine had their moments in public. Although I tried to avoid any public scenes, parents can only do so much. Kids are people too, and directing them to do what's right and adult isn't always easy. :) I accept that parents can't always control every little movement.

4. Tell us about your worst/best travel experience. Both the best and the worst were part of my trip to Maine in 2013. My first airplane flight (loved it!)...my first total change in travel plans, including an overnight layover without my luggage...it was all in there. And...I got to meet Marsha, Moderator. That was awesome!!!

5. If you work, are you happy at your place of employment and if so, how long do you think you will continue to work there? I am mostly happy with my current job. I do wish I made a bit more money, as I have trouble keeping up with the bills, but I won't quit. I'll be here as long as I am capable. (I am a personal care attendant for my youngest son who has Cerebral Palsy and other health issues.)

6. Pick one (if you had a choice) - win the lottery and share it with family/friends or give most of it to charity once all your most important needs are met? If I have to pick one... I'd help my family and friends first.

7. Would you find it hard to delete your Facebook account? If you don't have an account, skip this question or write n/a. N/A I'm still refusing to have any part of Facebook.

8. What kind of undies do you wear? Knickers for those who are in NZ, Australia, Ireland, England, Scotland etc. The kind that go under my shorts/jeans/sweats/skirt/...(but I don't like pantie lines, so...)

9. If you are married, how long has it been and did you have a small or large wedding? Divorced now, but my wedding was small and we were together for a long time. Still see each other every day.

10. Do you think Stephen King is an optimist or a pessimist and what do you suppose his take on the state of humanity is? I think he's an optimist for the most part. His take on the state of humanity?...I have no clue.

1. What are the chances of you and your friend/family members ever attending a King Kong? Zero.
2. Do you use coupons at the grocery store/fast food restaurant etc.? Always
3. Did you ever get mad/upset with a noisy child to the point where you spoke to the parents about it (i.e. in a public place like a movie theatre/restaurant)? I want to but am afraid the father will want to fight my husband.
4. Tell us about your worst/best travel experience. Driving to Miami FL to see the Orange Bowl and crossing over the Georgia state line realizing I left the game tickets at home.
5. If you work, are you happy at your place of employment and if so, how long do you think you will continue to work there? I'll probably get fired. I'm too outspoken
6. Pick one (if you had a choice) - win the lottery and share it with family/friends or give most of it to charity once all your most important needs are met? I'd help my family and friends first.
7. Would you find it hard to delete your Facebook account? If you don't have an account, skip this question or write n/a. My family uses it, so in that way, it would be hard but overall, it's boring.
8. What kind of undies do you wear? Knickers for those who are in NZ, Australia, Ireland, England, Scotland etc. Normal bikini style black.
9. If you are married, how long has it been and did you have a small or large wedding? 13 years small and cheap!
10. Do you think Stephen King is an optimist or a pessimist and what do you suppose his take on the state of humanity is? I think he must be pretty optimistic since I assume he's rich and agnostic.

1. What are the chances of you and your friend/family members ever attending a King Kong? What and where is that?

Several great experiences. I broke my leg skiing in Italy the first day, and spent 10 days in a hospital, I didn't speak Italian. Then from there I flew back to England with my classmates but had to fly to NY on my own. I had a big trunk and was on crutches, so I had to walk through the train station pulling the trunk with my crutches. I'd walk a step or two, pull the trunk a foot or two and then walk another foot. However, when I got to NY I had an interview for college. I went into NYC on my own with this full length cast on my leg up to the hip. He was so impressed he gave me a great reference and that is how I got into Rice.

5. If you work, are you happy at your place of employment and if so, how long do you think you will continue to work there? I am a HS Science teacher. I love it. However, I could see myself in 10 years just teaching new teachers instead of HS students.

6. Pick one (if you had a choice) - win the lottery and share it with family/friends or give most of it to charity once all your most important needs are met? I would want to give most of it away as soon as possible. Family would get part, charity would get half. Too many horror stories about lotteries ruining families.

7. Would you find it hard to delete your Facebook account? Nope.

8. What kind of undies do you wear? Boxers.

9. If you are married, how long has it been and did you have a small or large wedding? Just started our 14th year, small wedding.

10. Do you think Stephen King is an optimist or a pessimist and what do you suppose his take on the state of humanity is? Creative realist.

ZNPaaneah - The King Kon was/is an event when SKMB members meet in a given place to get to know each other, relax, and have fun. It is informal, not like large conventions. Thus far there have been two- the first on Bangor, Maine. (all things SK- places related to his books with Maine backgrounds). The second held in Ohio with Shawshank as a backdrop. A third is soon to be planned for Colorado- The Shining. Watch the MB for details about the forthcoming Kon.

I think middle school teachers should declared saints. I hated Jr. High kids when I was a jr. high kid, and so far that's been the worst part of being a parent.
Saint....hmmmmm. I think there are a few prerequisites I don't meet. :)
Give me sixth-graders any day over Kindergarten through third grade.
I like when they can blow their own noses, tie their own shoes and not go to the bathroom every 12 minutes.
I would retire if they moved me to a lower grade! I get along great with ages 12-14--we have an awesome time together!

And that makes you a good teacher :) When I was looking around for what to do after college (pol sci major, history minor--not the most practical of duos lol), I considered teaching at the secondary level. At the time, though, in the humanities you had to be able to coach a sport to get hired as a teacher at the high school level. No sport=jr. high. Rather than commit to that, I went to work for the govt., doing nothing that had anything to do with what I learned in college HAHA! I really do admire you.

They must've missed out on a lot of good teachers...not everyone is into sports!

My first full time teaching job was in New Hampshire and I was going to coach football. I was very concerned about standing on the sidelines in the winter freezing. I bought the warmest long johns I could find and I was never cold. They also had me coach basketball and sailing. I was half decent at basketball and sailing was fun.

I love a good outcome :) I would have only been qualified to 'coach' a biking team, unfortunately--lol. Not very sporty, me :)
