Have you ever been driving somewhere and suffer the same kind of thing?
That's truly frightening.
I'll be going down the road, listening to the radio or thinking about something that's been bothering me or whatever and then I'll suddenly realize that I haven't actually been paying attention -- not entirely. Or I set out to go to the mall or the golf course or whatever, and without even thinking about it I'll start driving to work.
The brain . . .
It's not just for breakfast anymore.
YES! Have you ever been going somewhere in the car, but when you get out on a certain road, you always take a certain route, always. But today, your plan is to go somewhere else but you have to get out on this road. It's like I'm on automatic pilot and i just immediately go my normal route. -- I may not have expressed this very clearly, but I do it all the time. I blame the car. The car is just used to going a certain route, when I really wanted to go somewhere else.
I used to go home from work via a certain route which became second nature. One night for some reason I inadvertently drove past my exit. The strange thing was that I just kept driving having no idea that I was doing anything wrong. 10min later I thought where the hell am I?
I missed the turn into my daughter's school one morning because I was so into a song on the radio, and busy playing the air flute (Moody Blues), so we had to make the block and come back around. That was four years ago, and I'm still getting grief about it ("Don't miss the turn, mom. No air flute!")
You might want to avoid Jethro Tull on the way to school as well.........
No! Tull is worth it. Besides you always end up in a better place than you'd planned.
