I did want to mention one more thing.

I think your winters are similar to mine....but MORE. (More cold and more moisture.)

DH noticed a big difference in his ability to breath outside in bitter cold after he had quit smoking and the meds had some time to improve his pulmonary function. (Is that the term I want GNTLGNT ? The ability of his lungs to expand.). For a while he could not step outside without his face covered, and even then, could only manage a short distance. It is much less debilitating after these years.

I mentioning this because, as hard as it may be to adjust, it IS worth it.

In tHe last year, I think I have only twice wanted a cigarette, and the want passes quickly. As long as I do not give in, I can stay off them.

Sorry to hear that Srbo. A lot of good advice has been given. The only thing I can offer is cynical advice. Get a second opinion in case your doctor has shares in an inhaler company or gets kickbacks from 'Big Inhaler'. Good luck quitting smoking. I have yet to try, but it has been on my mind more and more these last few years. All the best, mal.

You are a man of few words, Scotty....

Well, it is dang funny. :D

Wow, Maddie, what a story, gave me real goosebumps. Thanks for sharing, means a lot.
Tery , bought the tea, tastes awesome.
Thank you again, everyone, for this BIG moral support, you really are family. :)

As for me, I`m OK. The weekend was a little quiet, at least for me, my girls went shopping and that was good, since I needed to be alone for a while to think about all this and where I stand.
Wasn`t much to think about though, I gotta quit the smokes, do what my doc tells me and that`s it.
Millions of people have it a lot worse than me, I`m not gonna loose my head over this, just follow the instructions and that`s all I can do.
I feel OK, since I got the puffer the coughing has gone down a lot, I smoke one cigarette less day every day and my BD will be quitting time.
I don`t have any trouble breathing, zero, I still do my work out like I did before and all is good.

I quoted Scott's post because nothing showed up and it was blank when I was reading the thread. I see now that there is a laughing emoticon.

  1. Cold morning, -2C.
Loving it, I`m a winter person and it also makes it easier to breathe.
Speaking of breathing, since I got the puffer, the cough is almost entirely gone and I`m smoking one ciggie less every day. So far, so good. Got a date for the spirometry test as well, I thought the waiting time will be long, but it`s at the beginning of next month.
Good thing is that I`m still feeling very positive about this, it is what it is, I accepted it, doing my best to fight it, ...one step at a time and that`s as much as I can do.
In all honesty, I thought this will be a MAJOR trigger for me to get drunk at least once, to self pity myself and cry over my bad karma, but no, it hasn`t happened and it won`t, don`t feel the need to drink and I really can`t imagine, after almost 10 months of sobriety, waking up with a hangover. Yeah, no, that`s not what I need in life.
What I do need in life is a good old rock song, to properly wake me up. :)
How are you these days, friends and neighbors?

Your positive attitude will play a huge role in your recovery. Congrats on the 10 months sobriety! It is so nice to see you on here regularly again!!:love_heart:

SRBO- you don't want to start drinking because that goes hand in hand with smoking. Sending positive thoughts your way!

You're so right - when I quit I was fine, except the only time I wanted to smoke was after I had had a couple of drinks. Another reason why I prefer not to drink!
