I spend a lot of time thinking about this. Maybe I should have finished my Master's, it's would have taken one more semester at UNH. . I don't know- I've done a lot and learned a little. I'm going to be forty this summer and my priorities are about to shift into the financial realm.
Anyone dreaming big with a pragmatic goal?

We're just trying to get to retirement. No lofty goals here. I'd like to take a mechanics class. My idea is that my husband and I will retire to an RV and travel, state park to state park for the rest of our lives. I've told the kids to spread out. We'll get there eventually. We're both 47 this year. Anyhow, I'd like to know how to fix RVs so that when we're in the RV parks, I can earn a little on the side fixing them for all the folks who don't. There's always someone in an RV park with mechanical problems. It's a little out there, I know. I suspect we'll park mostly near water. We both love lakes, rivers and oceans. Mountains too. I definitely want us to retire by 62. We'll see. After the youngest gets out of high school, we're downsizing the house, putting every dime into retirement and waiting.

I'm in the minority opinion when it comes to Masters Degrees. Not sure if the ROI is worth it. That's just me though.

I just started a job where I'll be eligible for a pension if I stay 5 years. Lifetime medical benefits after 10 yrs. Hoping to get to 10! Otherwise it's work till I die :( Or go all breaking bad and start selling drugs!

Please get to ten! Drug dealing is not on my list of possible options.

Really? Forty two you say! That wouldn't by any chance coincide with the meaning of life, would it?
I did not know that you were a nurse! Cool.
...no, no meaning of life...I initially had gone to college to be an MD like my beloved grandfather, but due to being to much in love with fermented beverages back in the late 70's, I derailed that career choice at the time and ended up in broadcasting...36 years later, I still do work in that field and got my RN as an homage to Gramps memory, and my love if trying to help folks...

...I'm with you...as a nurse, I never felt it necessary to get a Bachelors over my Associates or the Masters or Doctorate degrees...as a state employee, the ROI would not change my pay grade a whit-nor would it make me a better front lines nurse...

Thank you for sharing. . . I can certainly relate to your derailed career story. I started out thinking that I would get a doctorate in psychology like mom, switched to teaching mid college, and a had a decent run in that field. An unfortunate combinational of self sabotage and Munchausen's by Proxy stymied that.
My latest tutoring clientele consist of nursing and pre-med students.
Suffice it to say I'm learning a lot about the field!

Swiftdog - my husband got a job like that a couple years ago (edit, nope 18 months-ish). I wonder if you work for the same entity?

What does ROI mean?

...it's how my wife learned so much about nursing, as she helped me prep for tests...
