Misery with a side of pepper-infused regret.

Actually, White Trash Fish Tacos. It's a very expensive, labor intensive recipe. I fly in a fugu expert to expertly section the Mrs. Paul's fillets. (I lied...I buy the store brand o' fish.)

We're having left overs - there is meatloaf, mashed or roasted potatoes, roasted carrots, left over gravy. And if that doesn't appeal, we also have some leftover spaghetti and meatballs. A big glass of white or chocolate milk to wash it down with.

If anyone remembers my reference to the Italian last night, we still had the sausage-infused marinara and kalamata loaf left.

I sliced off four fairly thin - not cracker-thin, but kinda thin - slices of the bread and buttered and garlic-powdered one side of the bread and put that side down on the cookie sheet. On the bare side, I spooned on generous helpings of the leftover marinara. I baked them till they were nice and warmed up, and then sprinkled cheese (sorry, Sigs, but we love cheese) over them and popped them back in to get the cheese melted through.

Pulled them out, and we had that and finished off the bottle of petite syrah that we'd started last night. The food was pretty yummy, carrying the garlic-bread taste from the buttered side.

Grandma was pleased.

Chicken white chili with cannelinis. I'll add some serrano to mine.

I'm so glad you resurrected this post. I've been needing some dinner ideas.
Tonight I grilled a flat iron steak, sliced it very thin(ly?) and served on toasted hoagie buns. I also made lentils - the kids won't touch them but they are so good. There's some tomatoes and strawberries around too, but I'm not cutting them up for anyone. And I am pretty sure I have some mint chip ice cream hiding somewhere in the freezer. I need some of that.

Yes, they are! I make mine with a ham hock or diced ham, a can of whole tomatoes that I've cut up (not fresh - fresh don't work in lentils), a bay leaf, a chopped onion, and some chicken stock. You mean they won't eat them cooked like that? That's criminal. I *love* lentils.

We love to have steak that way. I usually put mine on top of a lovely big salad. Today the first tomatoes were ready, and I absolutely glutted myself--lol. The Man also did thick rounds of yellow summer squash, marinated in white basalmic & olive oil, then grilled & topped with finely shredded mizythra cheese.

I do, too, but they're a hard sell with The Man and the kids. They will eat them in tacos, and I found a lentil/bulgar enchilada that they'll eat without complaining, but that's about it. Weirdos.
