Have some left-over chicken I did on the grill yesterday, some cob on the corn, garden salad...I'm already working on a beer. Just got home half an hour ago give or take. I had this young buck helping out today, right, son of a guy works the lumber yard, Garrett by name. Sounds like a cowboy, hey? Anyway, lumber truck shows up loaded down with Sheetrock, lift on it, forks. Have a window ready, sashes out, screen gone, support 2x4 in place. This old boy driving the truck is hemming and hawing about where I'd like him to pull in and lift the stuff...wants to see where the sewer exits the building. I show him. Sheesh. Worried about the septic tank. Anyway, we pull about...a bunch of Sheetrock through the window, 5/8s and 1/2 board, mold resistant and the other stuff. Young buck doesn't break a sweat. Good thing I forgot my glue gun at home...have about four or five at home...result of forgetting it...buy one new...so naw, I ain't going to have a fifth. I head home after the delivery...what's this got to do with supper?

Well...I'm building up to it.

Yeah...so...where was I?

Supper...chicken, corn, salad, beer...bread...

Young buck never broke a sweat so I figure to work him hard when I get back. Some say young people in this country won't work. Bullshit. This young man worked and worked hard. Verily. Time for supper. Adios.

Bratwurst, macaroni salad, and sliced garden tomatoes & cucumbers, I think. Just me, the man, and DD#1 today. Oldest is off to work and two youngest are at the cast party before their last performance of Macbeth. BH made sone 'goodie-roonie' (thanks, Sigmund :D) fresh sauerkraut and home pickled peppers that should be delicious on the sausages :)

Teacher's potluck and meeting at the church tonight, so I'm taking something to compliment Wal-Mart fried chicken (provided by the church)--lol. Chips? Potato salad? Meh--who knows?

I decided on pasta salad :) That way, if they bought the chicken hours ago and it's cold and greasy, I can just enjoy the salad I brought.

I cooked the potatoes (thin skins, so I did not peel them). Now they are cooling. Has anyone every made a type of scalloped potato where you use already cooked potatoes?

My Mom had a recipe she called "Patates Gratinee" and she cooked the potatoes that way, then layered them with evaporated milk, onions, butter flour etc. and then put shredded cheese on top.

It was so good! But she has passed on now and I don't have the recipe :(:down:

Think you could do scalloped potatoes--it would just cook faster. The béchamel is already cooked, the potatoes are already cooked... all you'd really be waiting for is for any topping you add (cheese, buttered bread crumbs, potatoes chips, whatever) to either melt or brown.

I think I will give it a shot! (even though it is hot here today, we have the A/C going, so why not?)

Thanks for the encouragement SkiMom :m_applause:

I often find myself in a rut about what to make for dinner. We'll end up eating the same or similar food week after week.

So, what are you having for dinner? Include recipes if you want. (Or ask someone for a recipe, they might share.)

~~~
Tonight I'm making home baked beans. It is a HUGE pot and only three of us to eat it. My beans are not a side dish....they are the meal. I put two pork hocks in it, so that will be all the meat we have.
I do wish I had made bread first because home made bread would be great with this. By the time I thought of it, I would have needed a second oven. So, store bought bread it is.
