I finished 2001: A Space Odyssey. The film and the novel were created concurrently over 4 years, with many changes being made all through the process. The novel was released a few months after the film and like most readers we're never happy with adaptations of books we like. I do think the film and the novel are companions and should be treated as such. I'm not sure in which order you should enjoy them but I understand the film a lot better now.

I started Beethoven: Anguish and Triumph, by Jan Swafford. A long but very readable biography and The Demonologist, by Andrew Pyper.

20th Century Ghosts - Joe Hill

I've read all the novels by Joe but not this collection so I am in process of correcting that. I read the first two stories last night, "Best New Horror" and "20th Century Ghost." I thought the story "20th Century Ghost" was great. It's a ghost story but also a nostalgic tale of the loss of our old movie theaters. That story was so awesome that I think I'm going to read that one again before I proceed further.

I'm about to finish FireStarter for the first time, even thouh I bought it a year ago. King at his best, although I never knew this "plot driven" side of him. This is the first SK I read where I sense ploting involvided. However, still a lot of storytelling and development.

Charlie turned out to be my favorite of his kid characters. Such a brave young lady

AMAZING collection. "The Cape" and "Pop Art" are my favorites.

I've never much cared for Firestarter--maybe because, IMO, everything that happens to them prior to
getting caught by The Shop
feels like bumps in the road more than actual "story" if that makes sense. Idunno. I guess a reread is in order.

The Hunter From The Woods by Robert McCammon - done

Arrrrgghhhh!

This is the second book in a row now that I have read from McCammon that ends on a cliffhanger. No fault of McCammon's as the last Matthew Corbett book - River of Souls & this one were written years apart.

So much fun hanging with lycnathrope Michael Gallatin again in The Hunter From The Woods. Gallatin represents McCammon at his WWII pulpy best! This book is a string of short stories and novellas that map out Gallatin's life after the event's of 1989's - The Wolf's Hour. Filled with the cost of the harsh life of possessing a unique talent at a terrible time in history, Gallatin pays the price over the course of his life emotionally and physically.

McCammon's long term love may be currently reserved for Matthew Corbett but I hope he can make room for Gallatin from time to time like he did with this collection of stories. It's too great a concept to not explore further.

Gets saggy in the middle, true. But I'm all about reading about human interaction and thoughts and feelings, rather than raw plotting.

Just finished Firestarter. Another great novel. I guess most of the forum has read it by now, so no point in recommending it here, LOL

That was the first book I read by King when I was 10. Kind of started me on becoming a fan. I read it again a few months ago for the first time since and It holds up well. One of his more underrated novels.

10? That's pretty young. It's a mature book, although it has some infantile situations. Nevrtheless, it is underated. Hardly anyone ever talks about it, mainy because thoe 79-82 novels are shadowed by "the stand"

My mother was the one who gave it to me lol. She didn't really care what I was watching or reading, I guess she was pretty liberal in that sense. So long as I wasn't out stealing cars or something, she was happy to let me do what I wanted.

The Dead Zone is a masterpiece, IMHO. I think it's one of King's favorites, too.

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
I read the first chapter of firestarter a little while ago when I was in a "what next" phase, along with the first few chapters of cell, but ultimately chose something else. It's still on my to be read list, and probably nearer the top.

As for what I am reading now, I have just come to the part in Mr Mercedes where Brady is plotting to
poison Odell, Jerome's dog
I just hope it doesn't slow me down any further because on my first read of IT, one of the hardest parts to read was
Henry poisoning Mike's dog - seriously Steve, enough already
I even skipped over it on my 2nd read.

Keep reading, things will be okay for Odell. Trust me!

That's the only Hill book I haven't read! Gonna try to reserve it at the library this week sometime.
