Aghast that our local library system isn't carrying Gaiman's newest (and doesn't plan to carry it). The only answer I got when I asked why was, "Maybe because of the title?" (Trigger Warning). I'm floored! They carry multiple copies that ghastly pseudo-bondage book by a hack writer, but not a book of short stories by a well known and respected writer? Maybe this should be in the "I'm angry today because..." thread :rage:
Can't you ask the library to order it from another library? It will take another extra week or so but it will arrive. Or doesn't librararies do that for free in the US? Here, if the local library doesn't have it, they order it for you from somewhere else in the country. What is called a long distance loan.

Finished Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon, the second book in her Outlander series. This series is so addicting, I couldn't put it down. I love the mystery and history that surrounds these books, making them intriguing. And of course, the growing relationship between Claire and Jamie is really what pulls me in, as well. I need to get my hands on the third book very soon!
I think the first is great and the next two good. Then, in the fourth (Drums of Autumn), my interest started to diminish a bit. She writes well but she ought to finish this series now and let Claire and Jamie rest in peace. Start a new series. That would be interesting!

They didn't even give the option for interlibrary loan! I'll likely just buy it, but it's crazy that I have to do so.

I'm still kicking around the Mt. Everest books ("Last Climb", by David Breashears and Audrey Salkel, is a fascinating account of the early British expeditions to Everest and George Mallory's last climb.) But, in the meantime, I just finished "One Second After" by William Forstchen. Someone had posted here about this book, and I decided to download it to the Kindle, which I did a year ago. Then forgot about it, and just re-discovered it the other evening. What an eye opener! I encourage everybody to read this one. It could not be more relevant in light of current events across the globe. You won't lose a lot of time reading it, but you may lose a lot of sleep after reading it.

It is all Skimoms fault... She lured me in to start reading Atwood and i got curious. Glad to know you think its good. It was really a shot in the dark since i never heard of it before.
LOL! I do really like Atwood :) Handmaid's Tale is in my top 5 books ever. The Oryx & Crake series is also great, and Alias Grace, and The Blind Assassin, and... (haha!) Her newest book of short stories (Stone Mattress) is very good, and The Penelopiad is really interesting, too.

Adore Handmaid's Tale. She is coming to speak at a college soon and hope to attend.

I am reading Firestarter by Mr. King and That Which Should Not Be by Brett J. Talley.

I am thinking of getting some Clive Barker. Anyone have any suggestions?
Loved Firestarter! Read it on the beach last summer for the very first time. I think the movie put me off for many years. I just finished Revival, I am going to pick up Wind Through the Key Hole again tonight. I think I keep putting it off because I know it's the last of the Tower books, and I don't want it to be over.

Thinking perhaps I should change what I have written under my avatar - on a re-read of Misery I am shocked and appalled at how horrible Annie Wilkes really was (shudder).
Well, it might be scary if we didn't know how lovely and precious you really are, plus there's the sweet pug right above it. Doesn't scare me.
