John Steinbeck - Travels with Charley - read that one in school - I liked the way his poodle would make that little "ftttt" sound when he wanted something.

Just found a decent hardback 1st on Ebay for a great price! Apparently Steinbeck knew he was dying (and could go at any time as he had a bad heart) when he took this journey and wanted to see the country one last time. Now I've never read this book so it's going to be quite poignant when I do sit down to read it.

I started The Dwelling (Susie Moloney)--a gift from our staropeace :D--, but got sidetracked by a book of short stories by Richard Matheson. I picked it up at that book sale yesterday and picked it up last night 'just to take a look'. Hours later, I was 3/4 through and loving every story :) They're nasty little tales, much akin to the nasty little Twilight Zone eps he wrote. The book is called Button, Button, and I'm very glad I bought it!

I finished Motive, by Jonathan Kellerman. He is still able to keep the Alex Delaware mysteries relevant and fresh and it seemed to me his prose style is more spare and punchy.

About two-thirds through The Secret History. What a twisted tale it is.

And I started The Rings of Saturn, by W G Sebald. This is my second foray into his work, and in this one the narrator is on a walking tour of north east Britain and it is the landmarks and such that send him and the reader of unexpected tangents that are fascinating as well as beautifully written.

I guess I've been in a post apocalyptic mood lately. I stumbled upon this one through the "kindle daily deal." The post apocalyptic world was been caused by a massive solar disturbance that wiped out all power, satellites, electronics and communication. And we all know when people don't have their electricity and other conveniences, they can get pretty ugly. I'm not too far in but I'm already willing to say that this is a good one.
