Currently reading Up the Down Staircase. Written in 1961, it's a "fictitious" take on the NYC public school system as seen though a first-year teacher. It's told in memos, bulletins, notes, letters, etc. This book is as relevant, or even more relevant, today than it was in 1961. The e-book version I have has a forward written by author Bel Kaufman in 2012 (or so). The circumstances around the publishing of the book, her background and her wit make it interesting reading in itself.

Recently finished Justin Cronin's The Passage and its sequel, The Twelve, and awaiting the final book this fall, City of Mirrors. Cool twist on vampires, created by a military experiment gone bad (don't they all??). Definitely worth reading if you like SK.
I really liked both of those books as well. I thought the 3rd book was due out last year. Now it's supposedly this fall. I'm not holding my breath. I'll probably have to revisit these to prepare for the 3rd book.

Reading Speaks the Nightbird by Robert McCammon. A little more than 400 pages in and it is really good. Not horror but a real good historical crime story. Centering around a witchtrial in 1699. Can be recommended. When i say historical crime i don't mean anything that really happened. The story is taking place some years after the Salem trials.

I'm so glad you liked it, Kurben! Time to start looking for Mr. Slaughter, The Providence Rider and The River of Souls.

Finally finished the tepid romance. It was really pretty bad, I'm sorry to say. Still, it's finished and the review written, and even a few days early! And I made my editor laugh-- In her words, "I love it when a book disappoints you. You can be so subtly sarcastic, but ever so respectfully." :)

And with that, I'm out of review books until the next wave hits in a couple of weeks. Will be starting the Harlan Coben that staropeace sent me tonight, then hopefully finish Boy's Life and hit the library books. I really would read all day, every day, if I could :)
