Double Feature again. I need a break from 'have to' books :) Booth still makes me laugh, and Sam is still an insufferable snot (Owen King does a lovely, and not easy, job of making an unlovable main character interesting). I'd forgotten some things that made me think.
I loved Double Feature. Yes the main character is an a$$, but by the end he hasn't made a complete hash of things. And isn't that the best we can hope for.

It is. My sense is that it's much like Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go--not exactly future, but an alternate timeline, if that makes sense. A 'What if?' Never Let Me Go is absolutely lovely and heartbreaking, if you haven't read it, BTW.
Your mention of Never Let Me Go made me recall, Station Eleven. Both tell the little stories within the larger ones.

I found an old paperback at my favorite used book store this last weekend. Anyone remember the Clint Eastwood movie "Firefox"? Apparently it was based on a book by Craig Thomas. I had no idea. At first, I thought it might be a book based on the movie type thing but it was actually written in 1977 a few years before the movie was made. For $2.00 I couldn't pass it up. So far, it's pretty good, cold-war era espionage, hi-tech military aircraft, I'm good to go. When I looked the author up Google says he wrote a sequel called "Firefox Down". I think I'm going to to back to the bookstore next weekend and see if I can find it...

Went for a shopping spree on kindle e-books. A lot of goodies for free. Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein, Poe, Jack London. Bought 8 Jules Verne for 2 USdollars for the whole bundle and 7 Alexandre Dumas for the same price. A tale of Two cities was free. Got some mysteries and thrillers and sf also.

I'm almost half-way into Bazaar. A quarter through Dissolution, by C J Sansom, two thirds of The Golem of Paris, Jonathan and Jessie Kellerman and listening to The Murderers Daughter, by the senior Kellerman, in the car. HHMMmmm...what to pick up next?? ;)

Let me know what you think of this one. All I'll say is that after his knock-it-out-of-the-park debut novel (A Simple Plan) and waiting for quite a few years for this follow-up, I was abit disappointed.
It's all right. I got into it a bit and realized that I'd seen the movie. I didn't remember much, but it sort of ruined the suspense.

So was i..... But you say A simple plan is good???? Havent tried any other Scott Smith after the Ruins i must admit...
A Simple Plan takes the question of 'What would you do?' to the highest extreme. I don't have a copy of the paperback to use to quote what King had to sat about this book, but he loved it!

I really should read a review book, but I don't want to. Thinking of zipping through Eyes of the Dragon again; it's been a while. LilMan wanted to take his copy to school today, but I have a vague recollection of one slightly-too-old-for-4th-grade scene, right near the beginning of the book. I should probably see what's up before I let it travel off to elementary school--lol. I think I'll suggest that we read it together first. :) My older kids all picked that one up when they were about 11/12. LilMan's already claimed my original Talisman, too. That one and The Gunslinger just fascinate him!

Zipped through the first five Anne of Green Gables books a few days ago when i nostalgic mood. Fun. But now i'm back. Reading Fall of Night by Jonathan Maberry. I like it. In it all his worlds are tied together and in a rather good way too. Joe Ledger is mentioned but does not take action because he is abroad. The father of Benny Imura from the Rot And Ruin series shows up in a way that actually makes sense. And of course our heroes from Dead Of Night are back still trying to survive. Well done!
