Reading Z for Zachariah. It is a really easy read.Written in the 70's.Apocalypse fiction.I think it may be a young adult book.So far so good!

Thanks, I just put that on my list to get :) I love apocalyptic fiction.

Do any of you ladies and gentlemen have a post apocalyptic book you might recommend? I'm talking asteroid hitting the earth, killer virus, or mutated aliens wiping out humans? I've read all the usual suspects like Lucifer's Hammer, The Stand, The Road, Swan Song, and countless others, but I figured if there's a hidden gem out there one of the SKMBers would be the one to ask. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Everyone have a safe weekend. Ghost.

I loved Lucifer's Hammer, and also its sequel (can't remember it's name though). The post apocalyptic novels I've read may not meet your criteria but, I liked the following novels....

The Lion of Comarre & Against the Fall of Night by Arthur C Clarke (This might be more Utopian than post apocalyptic but the story takes place in the distant future.)

Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut

The Chrysalids & The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham

Damnation Alley by Roger Zelazny

Alas Babylon by Pat Frank

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K Dick

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

and of course... The Long Walk, Cell, UTD, The Running Man, and The Stand by our most favorite author Stephen King :)

The Dark Half. I had to stop reading it twice, because it's made me cry. But I will get through it.
Why did it make you cry?
Reading The House Next Door.It has been on my TBr list since I finished Danse Macabre.
That book was very strange and I enjoyed it but I don't think I fully understood the concept. How far are you in the story?

Dang it! I finished that book I was reading last night and discovered it's the first book of five in a series. I liked it ok but not well enough to read four more books to find out how it ends :(

If any of y'all have read the Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer, will you pretty please let me know how it ends? :)

I'm currently reading a Jeffery Archer novel titled Only Time Will Tell. I've never read anything by Archer and it was one of Kindle's free deals so I thought I'd give it a try. It isn't a mystery or a thriller - I'm not sure what it is - but it's pretty good and it doesn't have much unneccary detail lol.

Boy howdy, I have learned that Kindle's "deals" are mostly romances for young adults no matter what genre they're listed as :(
Try BookBub. They let you select genres you are interested in and send you daily deals - including some Freebies! A lot of what I read on my Kindle comes from their recommendations. You select the book and can still complete the download (and purchase if there is a price) through Amazon.

I pulled Interview With the Vampire off the shelf (I guess it's nostalgia week). I haven't read this one in at least 30 years, maybe longer, and I'm enjoying it a lot. After I read The Vampire Lestat (which I've since read at least 3 times), I never revisited Interview--it seemed 'boring'. Shows what age does for a person, because I'm appreciating Louis much more this time, and adoring Rice's descriptions of New Orleans.
!

Tell ya what, I think Interview is the only 'great' book out of the whole series. Lestat and Q of the D are alright, but they're just pulpy potboilers compared to that first one. And I hate how, by the second book, Anne goes and changes Lestat into a superhero, basically. I prefer him straight-up EVIL. And by the time we get to Body Thief it's just...bleeeech. Boring shark-jumping X-Men vampires.

But you can't beat Interview. It deserves its place next to Dracula, Salems Lot, and Carmilla as some of the best vamp lit yer apt to read.

Still slogging through Phantoms by Dean Koontz. It's been about 3 weeks/100 years (who knows) and I am only halfway through. I may just have to admit defeat (which I hate to do with books) and call it a day. in fact, that's exactly what I am going to do. On to a reread of Joyland, that I just downloaded for Kindle thanks to danie (who doesn't like me anymore :tounge:)!
