While I was waiting for Nick at the library, I started a book called A Gathering of Shadows. It was fast paced and pretty interesting...and then I realized it's the second in a series :hammer: Had to order the first one from another branch, and while I was doing that, I reserved M.R. Carey's new one. Hope to get them by next week!

I've been thinking about the Blackwater series again, kingricefan . I think I have to order them from Thriftbooks :) Thank you again for the recommend.
Yes! Blackwater!!!

The woods are lovely dark and deep
I was reading an old Michael Slade when I picked up Call the Midwives by Jennifer Worth from my reserved list at the library. Has anyone been watching the series of the same name on the PBS?? Wonderful, wonderful. The book is a terrific read also. Happy, happy weekend.
Title 'tis Call the Midwife: there are several midwives in the practice thus my fluster, beg pardon.

...Joe Hill used a couple in NOS4A2, but they were used to bridge past & present.....so, that doesn't bother me....Koontz is guilty of it-but I don't mind, cuz if I feel like stopping-I can finish one of that style instead of trying to make the slog through a buncha pages before I conk out for the night.....
SK also used it (the very short chapter) at the beginning of Misery:

umber whunnnn

yer umber whunnnn

fayunnnn

These sounds even in the haze.

He then launches in to Chapter 2.

Ray Bradbury, The October Country
Please excuse my literary ignorance, I downloaded the October country for my kobo recently....after it was mentioned in a video game. I had never even heard of it or Ray Bradbury until I played it. It sounds really good from the previews I've read, I'm looking forward to reading a few of those odd ball carney tales.

I'm reading Dean Koontz 4th Frankenstein - Lost Souls. It's got short chapters , but the most annoying thing is, instead of writing swear words, he's describing them. It's like reading a book wrote by a priest. 'He called her a name that was a female anatomical term no doctor ever used, at least not in his professional capacity'. Take out the gaps between chapters and put one swear word instead of a 16 word description of said word, and this book would only consist of 40 pages. ;)

Talking about short chapters, i like short chapters if it's written in diary style like in my local book by local author "Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama susan" (trans. Mother Susan's Friends) by Bob Ong or it was only a filler for humor and light-hearted situation. If that happens, The short chapters works well for me. But when the short chapter was too short and it was suppose to be in the next chapter together, it annoys me

BTW this is a sample of Short chapter from Mother Susan's friends, a horror by Bob Ong

If you do not want to study, just work! Find a job! Work work work, you stupid cow! If you do not want to, just go die already! You're so Useless!

Talking about Patterson, only Alex Cross is my fave series in his books, altho someone here (forgot who but thanks for suggestion) suggest about the Patterson series about the group of ladies (sorry if i forgot it but i look at it at the bookstore). Haven't pick the book about group of ladies book by Patterson but i will pick it up if i have a time to read it on.

Talking about the thread, i haven't finished re reading Under the dome because i was distracted of playing DOTA so i ended up playing DOTA while the book is in the fromt of my laptop and serves as my arm rester lol

200 pages into a reread of Mr. Mercedes. I like Bill a good deal more this go around. Still love Brady, though a few things about him irritate me. Some of the dialogue is just....so bad.

Jerome is still one of the worst characters King has ever written. UGH.
Haha, what's your beef with jerome? Is it because he's basically a "yes man", and quite dull? I probably wouldn't go as far as to say he's one of the worst characters he's written (The Kid from the stand is THE worst), but he was quite forgettable. In fact, I can hardly remember anything about him.

I have the same problem at times, duma key took a back seat recently because I got Uncharted 4. I've finished it now though and I'm back into the book, and enjoying it very much.

Has anyone ever tried the Lincoln & Child books? I think Feast for Crows (something with crows, I think I may have my GOT books mixed up) or maybe Still Life With Crows is one. Relic, another. Are they scary? I remember them being checked out alot.
I read one, could have been Relic, and I remember thinking it was pretty all right...and then I promptly wiped it from my mind--lol! Don't remember a darn thing about it, and couldn't even three days after I finished it. I haven't read a lot of books that self-erase from my mind, but that was definitely one :)

Hahaha, thanks, good to know. Marking it off the list now. Life's too short. Maybe I'll try a different title. I started Caught by Coben this afternoon. Hooked from the start but I can tell there's not going to be much meat on the bone. Sometimes that can be a nice chicken wing and then back to the main course.

He's a yes-man, he has no flaws (as in he's brilliant, easy-going, nothing ever rattles him etc), his dialogue is totally *not* believable, ever, and
the jive-talk..... BLEH
.

Gonna back you up that Jerome is forgettable, while i like his Jolly attitude, I have a hard time remembering Jerome, hell i even remember Holly and Frankie more than him.

I once paused reading Everything's Eventual because of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. It's hard to read books if you are currently playing a game, especially single - player game like AC (and luckily that AC sustain my book reading persona because of AC novels, which some of them are bad written but can provide me back story of the game)

Ps. I was Reading Revival when my Buddy chatted me and he said that we would play DOTA ranked match but i backed out to his request, plus saying "i'm still reading, maybe next time"
