Hey, thanks, Kurben! I ordered a used copy of The Floating Admiral. My post at #9450, said I'd read Inherit the Dead, a collaboration of twenty story-tellers and a pretty good read, written more recently. And I think the proceeds go to help victims of violence. Do they do more than this one? Looked like there might be more than a few by The Detection Club. I wonder how many other possibilities are out there, waiting? Thanks again! :)
I know that Agatha Christie participated in at least two more, The Scoop and Behind the Screen that the detection club made. Also in the beginning of the 30-ties originally. They were published as The Scoop & Behind the screen in 1983 in one volume. Dont know the publisher and it is probably difficult to get a hand on now. Possibly The Detection Club made some more that she did not participate in. Dont know about that.

I have put House of Leaves on (indefinite) hold.
Too much like hard work for me, I will persevere with 99% of the books I read, but the dripfeed of good bits was outweighed by too much bloat/boring filler for my liking. I picked up Gaiman's "Ocean at the End of the Lane" which was fantastic, great little fantasy story!
One of my favorite novellas!

It is at least the fifth time i hear you pouring praise over that book. Is it better than American Gods or Neverwhere? Or is it more like that youthbook? What was its name? Graveyard book?
Glad to see you again anyway, You were muchly missed!
Thank you, Kurt. Yes it was better than either. Looking at it from an editing perspective, it's perfect. I can't identify a single word or period I would change. That alone is a marvel, even if you don't like fantasy stories. I think it's my favorite novel of his. I can't think of one of his novels that I really dislike (though I don't love them all) but I tend to prefer his short stories or especially his nonfiction. My second favorite novel of his is Stardust.

Hey, it's Skimom! Love mamaski! Thought maybe you'd gone south on us, but yer back. Thanks god.

Anyhoo...my two cents. Gaiman? I absolutely love his Sandman comic series. Especially the whole A Game of You arc. Makes me cry everytime I read em. But his novels? Mehhhhh. I wish I dug em more, but I don't.

You can read Cycle in 20 minutes. Go for it. Did you finish Bleak House?
Might do that tonight, then. Still need to write blog reviews for The Road and Slade House, though.

I actually started Our Mutual Friend! Got 457 pages in (i.e. finished volume one) and took a break. I immensely enjoyed it, but it was becoming a bit much. Will get back to it soon.

I can see where you're coming from. I don't like the novels nearly as much as the comics (forgot about them earlier--Love Sandman, but I also dig the Death series), short stories, or non-fiction--even his kids' books. Except for The Ocean At The End Of The Lane. That one was exceptional to me.

I purged the shelves today. I have two big donation piles (one to the women's shelter, one to Savers) and one for sale (well, trade for store credit anyway) to our new local bookstore. And a stack of duplicate SK HBs that I want to go to a good home (lol). Getting rid of books is hella hard for me! No more stacks on the floors, and I even have some free shelf space now. Still, I'm having book anxiety.

If you're in the charitable mood, I'm looking for a copy of Insomnia. Maybe we can make a trade? I've got a pile of yard sale books in my living room. Lol.

I finished reading The Blackstone Chronicles and I liked it a lot. If you've read a couple of Saul's novels in the past that you didn't much care for (like me), don't let that stop you from reading The Blackstone Chronicles :)

The Suntrust Online Service Agreement

I was on my bank site and was told to review the updated agreement. I downloaded it and discovered that it's 43 pages long. It's a novella. ;-D

Was it interesting? Did it have a good plot and developed characters? :)
