Started The Secret War by Max Hastings. A history about the intelligence work, spies and traitors during WWII and their influence. And thank god, he doesnot talk just about Bletchley Park and Alan Turing but about all the major players intelligence. Russia, US, Britain, Germany and Japan (some Italy too). Which i like because though it is an important part of WWII all the books i've seen has been very concentrated on Britain and the US while the rest has been downplayed if even mentioned at all (intelligencewise that is). There are many interesting stories i did not know before

Oh noooo! Two hours of tooth drilling. You need some good meds for that.
You know how tooth drilling smells - I'm sure it's fresh on your mind. I recently had some flavored popcorn - it claimed to be cinnamon, but it tasted like tooth drilling smells. I kept trying it just to be sure. And then I shared it with people telling them they had to try it and tell me if it really tasted like that. Majority agreed. Tooth dust flavored popcorn.
May you be well, Neesy!
Thanks  it is getting better now
(all the work was actually near the front teeth so it had to be done - replacing old fillings)
they were just tiny cavities but you're right about that weird drilling smell

The woods are lovely dark and deep
I started the first few pages of "A Dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron

Then I had to go get my teeth drilled for two hours :icon_eek:

I like that it is written from the dog's point of view - so far very good and quite funny :dog:
Loved, loved A Dog's Purpose. So sorry to hear about teeth drilling. You would think with our advanced technologies we could mute the screaming drills. Hope you are feeling better.

Finished Save Yourself by Kelly Braffet. Wow, that was a dark one. Never ceases to amaze me how talented writers can make characters so real. Create people on the page who are so vastly different than anyone you could imagine the author ever knowing in real life. I have known versions of every character in this dark tale. Braffet did a great job, but so depressing...Think I liked Last Seen Leaving a bit more.

Started my first Margaret Atwood book The Penelopiad - only about 30 pages in. (Thanks for the rec skimom2 ! :) ) My reserved copy of Hag-Seed isn't in yet.

Plodding through Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult.
One of her earlier novels that seems like it would be a perfect a Lifetime movie.
(Did I mention I hate Lifetime movies?)
Only forcing myself to finish it because she's one of my favorite authors and I keep thinking maybe it'll get better?

It was not all that bad - the place I go to is one of the best - at least they had good music in the background!

Glad to hear you enjoyed that book :adoration:

Save Yourself was my first foray into Kelly Braffet's books. I agree, very dark and depressing. I don't think I'll go beyond SY. I don't need the darkness.....

Groucho, Hector Arce. One of the most stimulating bios I've ever read. Still has me raising my eyebrows and rolling my eyes...and craving a big long cigar. I guess Julius Henry Marx drove three wives to drink. No big surprise there. Marriage is a wonderful institution, but who wants to live in an institution? He just never could turn off that rapier wit or stop with the snappy patter. He musta been vaccinated with a phonograph needle. But a good book. Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend; inside a dog, it's too dark to read. From the moment I picked up the book till I laid it down I was convulsed with laughter; someday I intend reading it.

Was Groucho the one that was on The Dick Cavett Show with Truman Capote? He couldn't hear and kept interrupting. It was a hilarious exchange.
