Sorry, you are correct; the novella is exactly what I was thinking about. It's called Sleep Donation and sounds very interesting.

Amazon.com: Sleep Donation: A Novella (Audible Audio Edition): Karen Russell, Greta Gerwig: Books
Just downloaded this one for my Kindle. Will be starting it today. This is my first experience, ahem, with Karen Russell. I have high hopes that this will not be my last though. All of her work sounds so interesting and right up my alley. Will report back once I am done.

Just about a hundred fifty pages into Dan Simmons' The Terror, and like it so far..mood set well with the bleakness of being frozen into the ice, being stalked..and it was cool how he dedicated it to the cast and director, screenwriter, etc from The Thing From Another World..

I am currently reading The Abominable by Simmons. I guess it could be called a companion piece to The Terror. Real people (the explorers) from The Terror have been mentioned in The Abominable and they both take place in bitterly cold places.

Where-North Dakota??!! Did I mention it snowed here again last weekend? It's only May, 8 months of winter and counting! :grumpy:

Currently reading The Stars My Destination, by Alfred Bester.

In it, a new teleportation technique called "jaunte" has revolutionized transportation and everday life. Besides the obvious homage King pays the story in The Jaunt (Stars my Destination was first published in the fifties), in Lisey's Story it's also mentioned that it's Lisey's husband's favorite book.

Sorry about that...I like the color fonts, but will stick to the darker tones from now on, or black. Thanks for the heads up. And for your thoughts. Things are good, and getting better every day. This caught us by surprise...my husband was symptom-less...so we are grateful that the problem was caught and fixed before he suffered a heart attack. He was undergoing a physical in preparation for an unrelated surgery when the blockages were discovered. There is no damage to the heart, and he should make a complete recovery with the new plumbing!

We had a similar experience after a car wreck. No one was badly hurt, but in their routine check up the ER discovered that my husband had extremely high blood pressure. If not for that wreck, he'd likely be dead of a heart attack or an aneurysm right now. Silver linings, right?

Finished The Lobster Kings (Alexi Zentner) and enjoyed it very much. Also done with One plus One (JoJo Moyes)--I liked it, though it required some suspension of disbelief and the ending was weak. Now reading The Drawing of the Three (again--lol) and The Daring Ladies of Lowell (Kate Alcott). So far, I like this book very much! Set near the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, involving factory girls. Next up: The Ghost of the Mary Celeste (Valerie Martin)--I really enjoyed her previous books--and The Soloist (Steve Lopez), for book club.

Eh. It was all right. The jocularity and ties between Elizabethan England, Shakespeare, and Poe became forced by the end. Lamb and Sacre Bleu are still my favorites of his.
I could see where that would be a stretch, though I did like Fool. I'll have to read Sacre Bleu soon. Lamb was the first of his that I ever read so I have a soft spot for it. I have not read anything that was published before Lamb, but most of what was published after. I guess I'd have to say the Vampire books are my favorites, given the subject matter and the hilarious way in which it is treated.

I really liked Fool. And I also have Sacre Bleu to read. Lamb was good too. I've read a lot of his stuff and it's all been entertaining -- some more so than others.

I am reading Dirty Love by Andre Dubus III. Collection of 5 shorts that all connect in some way. Only on the second story, but so far liking it better than the opener. Picked it up at the library just based on how much I enjoyed House of Sand and Fog.

I have read maybe half of Christopher Moore's stuff. I liked Fool and A Dirty Job is my favorite.
