Just finished Lights Out by Peter Abrahams-took me waaaay too long to finish. I was only reading it sporadically, so it was page 180 before I was really into it. Still a little lukewarm about the ending...Didn't finish Night Shift yet, but had to start my reread of The Stand today. I'm only on page 42 but am totally hooked! It's been so long since I read it, it's like a brand new book! =D

Read The Stand in its originally released abridged edition, read the unabridged edition when it was released a few years later and re-read it here a couple of years ago with a reading group. Each read was like 'hearing' it new; 'tis a very special story. Thank you, Mr. King.:biglove:

I have shelved the regulators for a bit. I am half way through it, but I think I have been reading about Tak and these same names for so long and not enjoyed them too much, even in desperation. The last week or so, I would look at it and think "ugh, can't be bothered". So I have put it back and I'll see if I get an urge to pick it up at a later time. For now, I am going to pick through some short stories, I am just finishing The road virus heads north. There are a few others peaking my interest from Everything's Eventual, so I am just going to take a few of those in before starting another novel.

Well, lessee, finished Laura McHugh's Weight of Blood and Greg Iles's new tome is talking to me from the coffee table, BUT, Amazon just emailed me and said that my copy of The River of Souls the new Robert McCammon/Matthew Corbett series will be delivered to me on Friday. Today, Jeffrey Deaver's latest Lincoln Rhyme's story The Skin Collector hit the book stores and on my tablet I have three of Robert Masello's books yet to read, Private Demons, The Spirit Wood and Black Horizon.

Well, the library just solved 'my too many books, too little time' dilemma; they are holding Charlaine Harris's new book Midnight Crossroads for me. I am very interested to see where she takes me, there will be no Sookie in this story.

Picked up Midnight Crossroads at the library, come home and in the post box is The River of Souls!

I'm still reading '1984' by George Orwell. I think Edward Snowden fancies himself a Winston, I don't know Winston's last name yet or I forgot it, but I think Snowden's more like a Goldstein. The one who does the 2-Minute Hate Speech every day and gets everyone into a frenzy about things he claims only he has access to knowing.
It's awfully hard to read though without becoming incensed in places.

I started a new book, All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr last night. 100 pages in and am enjoying it very much! About a young blind girl on a small French island occupied by the Germans during WWII, and a young boy in the Hitler Youth who loves radios, hence his reluctant service. They have not met yet, where I am at in the story. Each chapter is a back and forth between the 2 characters, from before the war to during. It is very good so far!

Personally i'm in a not-King phase right now. I've started with Robert Harris An Officer and a spy. It is a historical fiction based on the Dreyfusaffair in France 1895. It is a kind of political thriller with historical persons in the leads. Started very interesting.
Excellent book, you will Like Robert Harris. if when you finish Try Enigma By harris too, it is about a brillant codebreaker in Bletchley park during WWII and a spy in the midst of this and a battle to break the German u-boat Enigma code again. Actually, read any of robert harris's books and you will enjoy.

I just started reading The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. I've seen the movie many times, but have never read the book, or any other of that genre for that matter. So far, I like it. It's amazing how times have changed since its publication in 1929. I'm enjoying the setting just as much as the story at this point.
You can almost picture Bogie with his wit as you read the book. read it, enjoyed it.

Oh, i have read a lot of him. But not Enigma. But I have read Archangel, Pompei, Imperium, Lustrum and Ghost (or was it ghostwriter?) The three roman ones were very good. As were An Officer... but I thought Ghost and Archangel were a bit weaker but still good. Will try to pick up Enigma somewhere.

If you like Hammett you should try Raymond Chandler. The Big Sleep, The Little Sister, The Long Goodbye and the Lady in the Lake are my favourites of his.

I got that feeling at about the 2/3 mark of the first book. I finished it, but didn't pick up the next two. I HAVE them (lol), but have yet to open them.
Know exactly what you mean! Got the first one, finished it but it didn't leave me hungry for more so I never got the other two parts of the trilogy. There is too much good stuff out there to read to have the time to read the halfcooked ones too.

I had the same problem. So I just moved on for a while. Am reading Doctor Sleep right now - oh my - so, so good.
