It is a highly praised book and I was able to finish The Lovely Bones but I did not like it at all. The ending . . .I was not satisfied with the outcome.
Yeah... I think I also would have finished it one day... in some 5 months if no longer. But I decided to read a few other books instead... I don't like to put off a book, but this time I had to, as I was bored because I know the movie and I know everything that is gonna happen next... just no fun for me. I don't know...maybe, some day I will give it another try.

@MadamMack I finished my Essence of the Dhammapada. It was a good book and talked about the stories of Buddha, but it really wasn't one that engaged a person in how to practice it. There were definitely suggestions, tips and what a person should and shouldn't do, but I wouldn't recommend it as a book on practicing Buddhism, more as a book to add to what you have already learned. If someone was just new to seeking this form of spirituality, I would direct them to The Buddha Walks Into A Bar as it is more accessible to the beginner and how to practice the teachings in everyday life.

I haven't seen the movie; I'll probably watch it once I'm done with the book. I'm on page 250 and have enjoyed it so far.
It's really not like the movie- alot was left out by the time it made it to the screen. Not a very well-written book, but one that has a place in literary history. I hope someday to find a nice 1st printing copy for my collection.

Welcome! Love ur profile pic!!! Peewee's the BESTEST!! Read all of the books ur reading now. Lovely Bones is awesome! The Lot was my 1st introduction to King, way back when it came out in paperback, years ago! Will always be my most favorite of his novels- I grew up in a small town in PA and I knew all of those people he put in his book- they had different names and didn't live in Maine, but they lived in my town- even had a 'Mable Werts' lady, she went by the name of Mrs. Love.
Lovely Bones stuck with me for a long time...

I'm reading 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett. It's a very compelling story about Jackson, Mississippi set in 1962 where black maids raise white children but aren't trusted not to steal the silver!! A great read and very unputdownable!
I've watched the movie twice--incredibly powerful. I want to read the book too.

Good morning Flake and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you!:)
I didn't know that it was a film, I'm gonna look to see if I can get it on DVD......can't wait to watch it!!!
Good morning, Happy Thanksgiving back to you. :) (We don't actually celebrate in my country, but it is mighty nice to have such a greeting.)
Edit: Doh! I just realised that you're not from the States either... :)

The movie is very good, but so, so hard to watch at times. It breaks your heart, really.

I just started Doctor Sleep...have a few hours before we sit down to eat...already had a slice of pumpkin pie (pumpkin from the garden)...don't have to ask me twice no sir. I've read numerous posts/threads about Doctor Sleep, even opened spoilers, have forgotten most of that, a talent I'm thankful for...although the thing about Glocks has been rehashed so often it is ingrained...and this will be the 93rd title I will read this year, the goal a hundred. I wonder if I become so engrossed in the story that I take it to my tree stand later on, read there? Like in Dreamcatcher? :)

Finished We were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates, it was a great novel although a bit long. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so I think I'll carry Primitive People by Francine Prose as it's the shortest book in my stack of unread books and the wait may be a bit long.
Don't you just wish that we should be able to deduct from our bill a dollar a minute for each minute we have to wait in the waiting room for the doctor to see us? Nothing gets caught in my craw more than making an appt. to see the doc, the nurse calling me the day before to remind me of said appt., getting to the doc's office at least 10 minutes before said appt., only to have to wait at least 20 minutes after said appt. is scheduled to get in to see the doc. Irritates the crap outta me!

Yes Nurse - just keep him waiting a few more minutes :m_snicker:
:snicker: I think that's a course they take in Medical school - how to keep 'em waiting
