i like to hunt, fish, have a game camera i've used for years now and recently it started to fail, not taking daylight photos so i picked up another. someone asked in another thread how anyone could kill an animal. it's all about trigger control, that and control your breathing. make sure the cross-hairs are in the kill-zone, take your time, make your shot count. i eat what i harvest, i harvest when allowed. anyway, part of the fun of hunting is knowing what is out there in the bush. so, almost every day i head out to the woods, swap the s.d. card or the compact flash in the older camera, insert a different card, bring the other home, download the photos, or in the case of the new, also video.

have had this large bear at my stand for the last three four days. looks to be about 350 pounds or better. i don't hunt bear, have never eaten bear, although i've heard good reports. have a friend who has a bear permit, asked him if he wanted to use my stand, the deer were not coming around, deer numbers are also down. in addition to hunting deer, sportsmen and women in the area supplemental feed the deer herd through the winter. we invest our time, money, and effort and this is a labor of love. i've walked two miles down an unplowed road towing a tabaggon with one bag or two on the sled, another on my shoulders...and yeah, wearing snowshoes. sounds like the old tales of walking to school, hey?

so today, i call up jim, say hey, let's go, i'll fetch my cameras, show you the stand, maybe you'll get a bear. we meet, talk, he follows me out to my place in the bush. i pull one camera off the tree, use my screw-shooter to remove the older camera, take them with me. lady i worked for today asks me do you want a 40' ladder. i'm like, yah! heh! a 40' ladder. she had others she gave away. gave her a dead president...whoever is on the 50, grant i guess. and i was going to set that up in another area of the bush, have a tree stand i was not using. so jim and i head out, i show him the stand, i set the 40-footer up, set one camera up there, head home, throw a couple pork chops on the foreman grill, warm up some crock-pot lasagna, set down to eat, load the film cards in the computer. fork up a mouthful of lasagna and see this:

i text jim, send him a pic of the deer, tell him, just my luck, you can't take this one. i hope he gets his bear, might get a taste or two.

so my plans for the future, at some point before the end of the year, i'd like to tag a deer, a buck, because that is what i allowed, this one would be nice, larger would be even better. i've had good luck for the past 20+ years and i'd like to continue the trend, there's room in the freezer, or there will be once i make some jam, which is another goal in the coming months. last time i think i made 55 small bottles of various jams, have the berries, just need to find the time to make jam. it's not the easiest thing to kill an animal, takes control, trigger control, control your breathing. and once down, the work begins. one must gut the animal. one buck i harvested weighed 233 pounds dressed out, lying on the ground, and that weight needs to be moved to your vehicle. i've moved lighter deer, 110 pounds, 130 pounds...frost on the ground helps, snow, light snow is even better.

Oh yeah, got a nice unexpected treat last night. My wife's company has a suite at the Amalie Arena in Tampa. So we got to see the Lightning-Avalanche NHL match for free last night. Nice suite and catered food and drinks! Had a great time. Of course the Lightning got zonked 4-0, but still had fun. Probably helps that I don't really care much about hockey. :)

Fall break, but no rest for the wicked (ish): working on lesson plans for next week (new reading program starting), then cleaning for Round 2 of October houseguests. My daughter's friend is coming from Wisconsin to stay with us for a week. He's never been on a plane, never been farther than Milwaukee, never been away from his large family, and has never even seen a mountain, so this will be an experience for him. They 'met' two years ago via FB--his mother and I have been friends for years, and the kids kind of matched through commenting on our FB posts. It will be a strange (and likely tense) week for Mark and I: when this plan was hatched, I didn't have a job and was home all day. Now there will be unsupervised young adults (23 and 20) in the house all day. I'm not clueless--I was married at 23. :p Neither is a stupid kid, but... yeah.

Is it bad that I've requested that my older son make it very clear that he is home during the day (he works nights) and he loves his sister?
Sounds reasonable to me - I hope they enjoy each others company and get along well!
:)
So they have never met in real life (in the flesh, so to speak?):nrvs:

Oh neesy.
I meant it sounds reasonable to this comment:

When I quoted her post though, you cannot see that part but just the first part :D:facepalm:
:haha:

Edit: hahaha - just got the double meaning there - no it was not an intentional pun

:waaaht:
No, they haven't. But they text constantly, talk on the phone often, and Skype at least every other day. Technology can be a wonderful thing :)
That is what I mean - until they meet in real life you will not know if there is any kind of attraction

I mean physical attraction to be specific...

Okay - I better get out of this thread now - yikes!

No, wot? No.
I had or saw no double meanings. Jesus god.

What thread am I in? Ok..
Week coming up.

Gotta go to see if I have to serve a Grand Jury next week. That's something different.

Wow! Me too - well not a Grand Jury - probably just a medium sized or little jury :m_thinking::m_whatwhat:

On Thursday October 27th I get a day off work so I can sit in a stuffy court room all day and see if I get chosen or not

(They told me to bring a good book to read)

Well this week is going to be a bit of limbo for me. I got all the projects completed that I could last week. 4 of them got delayed indefinitely. I may have to pick up the reins myself and complete them if I can get time. The ones that did get completed now have to be put through my QA/QC processes. Most of them are automated, but can take some time to run. The good thing is that is when I have time to hang here on the board! :)

I've got 2 techs out on vacation this week too, so nothing will get done production wise. Oh well, I have lots of small things I've put off in favor of more pressing matters.

On the Halloween Scare House front, I completed all the fake dead bodies this weekend. They all look similar to this:

I also finished the lab sample jars I need to get done. We also finished all the advertising stuff and tested all the smoke machines. I am using the tub portion of my shop vac to create a ground fogger. It has a hose input hole at the top and a drain hole at the bottom. I've rigged the vacuum hose to be inside the tub and attached to the two holes at each end. Then the bucket is filled with ice. I have a hose going from the smoke machine with low lying fog juice into the internal hose, then out through another at the bottom, which goes out to a diffusing attachment at the end to make the fog fan out along the ground. I tested it and it worked great. I do have some leaks to seal, but the test run was a success. We also got some dry ice to run time tests on the bubbling fog experiments in the lab. My son is running all the logistics and production behind the scenes. So far so good! We have 20 latex wounds, a half eaten corpse, trim the large branches we got from a neighbor's tree trimming into a scary tree and a gallon of chunky, semi congealed blood to complete this week. We start the set construction Friday afternoon. We are also staging a wrecked car this year and I have to create a set of props for that.

Should be amazing! Be sure to post some pics if you have time to take any!
