What book do you wish Steve would re-write?

Hold up now! I'm not talking about any of his own books. I'm talking about a book that has been written by another author that you've read and think that it could be a better book if Steve did a re-write and wrote it in his own 'voice', using his own talents to heighten the thrills and chills.

My choice would be The Exorcist. It's already a creepy tale but in King's hands it would be almost unbearable in tension and he would be able to bring the characters to life in the way that only he can. Can you imagine what he would be able to do with Pazuzu? Can you imagine how the conversation between Father Karras and the demon? Can you imagine the climax? :icon_eek:

But, you know he'd put in a turtle.......and it would get squashed in the road!
sigh. yes. probably.

But I also know those stupid Joad people would've been hanging from the orange trees. And those damn coins they left on grandpa's eyes would have gotten picked up by some serial killing clown truck driver. And Rosasharn's bum would've turned into some mutant tommyknocking rat mutha! It would be epic.

;-D But, how would he work in arc-sodium lights- there'd have to be some kind of time travel in the plot.....;;D

I'm not sure about the ending. King has a tendency to "wimp out" on the endings of many of his books. I agree that a King re-write of The Exorcist could be one of the most terrifying books written, though.

I'm not sure about rewriting an existing book...I'll have to stew on that one a while. But with King being such a resolutely American author, and yet being an enthusiastic fan of the resolutely British HARRY POTTER books, I've always fancied him taking a crack at a spin-off series highlighting adventures at the U.S. counterpart of Hogwarts.
