Trying to figure out what to do about a review that is due tomorrow. The book was a 'meh' romance (bikers, swearing bee, etc.)...until it came to a screeching halt with one of the most gawdawful sex scenes I have ever had the misfortune to read. Ghastly and unintentionally hilarious. So, so bad. I'm hired to review honestly, but it would be cruel to say anything like what I'm thinking. Add to the mix, I've known the author for years. My head hurts thinking about this.
That's a shame - maybe just tactfully mention that the sex scene was a mistake? Could it be eliminated altogether?

Edit: sorry - did not realize it was already published - too late now!

Tossed headfirst into planning a summer reading/math intervention for our at-risk kids. My boss texted me last night with a request that I make a pitch to the principal and money guy (the real power in the school) today, so I prepared a proposal late last night and got on the principal's schedule. After a positive meeting, she asked me and a coworker to prepare a letter to parents, schedule dates and times, etc. Then we meet with her again in the morning for a final review. My head is spinning--I've gone from looking at 12 weeks of vacation to about 2--lol. It will only be 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, though, and the money will be nice, as I was not expecting it :) The worst part was getting things done under the radar of 2 of my coworkers. They likely won't be asked back next year, but my immediate boss has been out of town and has not had a chance to let them know. Getting into that whole quagmire is not my job. I'm not naturally a sneaky person, though, so that part grates me.
