Well, got to spend the day and evening at two different ERs yesterday.

SwiftMom had a fall in her driveway and ended up fracturing a vertebrae (they think, who knows?).

I had to call 911 for an ambulance as she couldn't sit in my car when I got there and needed to lay flat. So they took her to the Hospital where her doctors are. They did some tests and sent her to their affiliated Hospital in Boston as they didn't have a spine specialist at the local one. Now I'm waiting to see what the next steps are. She said something about coming home today with a brace but who knows? Will be heading in to see her shortly.

Had to take poor Brody Dog to the kennel. He'll have to stay there this week until Thursday. I didn't want to leave him in his crate all day, every day this week while I'm at work. I work from home on Fridays so I will work from SwiftMom's that day.

This whole aging parent thing is a drag...........
Healing vibes being sent to SwiftMom and love to Brody Dog.

Healing vibes for your mom swiftdog2.0 . Calming vibes for you. Is there a local dog sitter in your area? Hugs for Brody.
I also send guiding vibes as you approach the care for your aging mom. As Dana Jean said, the Tet is here for you. Many of us have gone through the process for caring for an elderly parent. There is a wealth of knowledge here if you need it.

You're my other-side-of-the-earth twin :) I have nothing against second hand--much of my house is furnished with excellent secondhand buys. :) My best deal: the leather and oak Morris chair we found second hand for $40. Got home and did some research, and the same thing was going for $780 at a regular store!

We still have a couple of weeks to get used to the idea of a new puppy. I haven't had one of those for YEARS--hope I remember how to train one!
$40?! That is incredible, well done!

Ahh, it's both scary and thrilling becoming a new mum/mom again after so long... and of course will be very hard emotionally for you as babydog will still be filling your every waking thought.
Have you gone for the same breed, or something completely different?

((( swiftdog2.0 ))) sending you lots of strength, looking after elderly family is so tough... and Brody will be just fine, he is a well-loved and secure pup and so will take these temporary changes well in his stride.

It's okay Swiftdog - at least she does not have the dreaded Alzheimer's (((( swiftdog2.0 ))))

I thought I'd surprise my girlfriend this morning and make blueberry muffins for breakfast. 1 hour later I saved one for her after just about choking on the one I tried. As I was dumping the rest out by the shed I asked myself if I thought raccoons would eat what I had created. After she woke up, she came into the kitchen and said "What smells funny? Kind of smells like cornbread and blueberry maybe?" I proudly handed her the muffin which, to her credit, she smiled, warily, and said "Did you make these?" I said "Just try one bite." She did, then laughed and said "E for effort babe, but ummmmm, no." She said why don't you have a seat and I'll see if I can make round 2. If any zombies attack while I'm making them, I know you'll take good care of us." So I decided to go outside and check on the muffins I'd thrown out. No raccoons, no ants, no anything. I may have created something so foul that scavengers and insects are avoiding them. Her muffins were much, much better...lol
Like she said A for effort!

The secret to nice tender muffins is to not overmix them but just to gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients
Since raccoons are nocturnal anyway they might not find your treats until later ::P

...Swifty-Brody-dog will be good, and Swiftmom?...she is going to be in a lot of pain....the elderly don't heal quickly and consequently her discomfort will linger...if they gave her meds for pain, make sure she drinks lot of water so the med levels don't become toxic and make her squirrley....if I can help, feel free to ask....40 years of chronic pain here...

Right you are Neesy! I went back out later to take Aidan out to the pool this evening and the "muffins", and I use that word loosely, were nowhere to be found. I haven't seen any of the raccoons legs up out in the yard yet. I was telling Tamara about this earlier and she was cracking up saying she'd have to throw them something every now and then so as not to think we're not neighborly. Side note, my son woke up around noon and staggered into the kitchen, got himself a muffin. He ate most of it then told Tamara they were very good. Tamara looked at him with a straight face and said, "Well, thank your dad, he made those." Daniel did NOT wait one micro second before muttering a quick laugh and said "Yeah, sure he did." Tamara's attempt at a straight face ended at that moment. Traitors...both of them I say!

I think the real secret to good blueberry muffins is that ghost not make them ever again...lol

Different. All the Shepherds we looked at were indifferent to Nick, and she's going to be his dog. He wanted one that would love him immediately :) The puppy we're getting is half Border Collie (dam) and half Australian Shepherd (sire). It was nice going to go look at the pups--I know the owner through work, but hadn't been to her house. Both she and her husband are nice, as are the puppy parents. Both calm, well-mannered dogs, and the pups have a clean, nice area. The owners breed their dogs once a year and treat all of their animals (3 dogs when they don't have pups, 9 cats, 22 assorted chickens and ducks, 4 horses) well, so no puppy mill. Nick is so happy.

I just got back from getting groceries with my mother and grandmother. Earlier this morning, I had to go with my grandmother to the doctor's office, only to find out that her appointment was on AUGUST 24th and not today. We both laughed about it. It is so humid outside! I had to strip down to my boxers as soon as I got through the door; I was sweating that much. Right now, I'm sitting at the desk in my mancave/study, and I'm probably going to be doing some writing.

I see a tiny little spider crawling high on my wall. I'm biding my time... waiting to strike.

I'm going to confess,

Today I got a slice of bread, spread on mayo, a slice of chopped ham and a handful of Lay's potato chips. I folded the entire thing in half, scrunched it, and chowed down. Drank some iced tea with it and it was delicious.

Yay, Monday!

Sounds Awesome
