I always say, "On the Stephen King message board (yes, I'm a huge Stephen King nerd...." and then go into whatever else I'm saying. I think the disclaimer keeps people from looking at me funny. But people have exclaimed on how much I am not a message board person so they are surprised but that at times.

I do the same thing. I don't care though. I am happy to be a fan and here. It's nice to know that I have something all to myself among my loved ones!

For everyone who said about their mom, I got this for you...."Parents Just Don't Understand" to quote the Fresh Prince......

Having worked for a number of people over the years, there was this one time out of the few times I've noticed books in a customer's house, noticed Stephen King titles among others on the shelves, and I asked who reads Stephen King. The customer seemed embarrassed, said something like 'Oh that's...' and he provided a name unfamiliar to me, dunno if that was a wife or a child though I suspect his wife as their children were all...eight? and younger. There have been a few other times, this old lady up the street and around the corner, but she doesn't have a computer, smart phone, mobile device, or wrist-rocket though she did have a handful of hardbacks on the shelf. Haven't come across a row of fifty or more titles. But I would not be surprised, at all, if my experience with who will or who will not call you for work extends to Stephen King fans. There are some people who will not call you because your last name is Johnson, or you don't attend, or you're perceived to be a different political flavor, or you don't smell like a French whore. I'm surprised, over and over again, by just how intolerant the self-proclaimed tolerant really are.

All my friends and my hubby know I'm on here but they won't be joining the party as they either don't like reading or don't like reading him. To be fair to hubby he enjoys the films he just isn't a big reader. My other friends are not made of the stern stuff I am and prefer....excuse me while I try not to be sick.....romance novels or chick lit. I think I was the only one amongst them that didn't read that 50 shades.

I would hire you to do handy work Walter Oobleck! and even if you smelled like a Finnish smoked kipper that is fine - I like smoked fish! (not so sure about these French whores that you keep mentioning, though) :hmm:

Still have that neighbor down the road who insists I'll rot in hell for reading Sk books and more so for being part of the SKMB. Oh well----

Perhaps if you told your neighbor you have quit reading Stephen King, and moved on to J K Rowling and George R R Martin, she/he might think better of you.
Clearly your neighbor only has a prejudice against Stephen King.
People who think as Spidey's neighbor down the road does remind me of Westboro Baptists; they are people for whom thinking is replaced with deciding. They need to employ backward mutterings of desevering power in order to reach a state wherein they can relearn how to think while simultaneously shutting the hell up.

Don't know any real fan even if i know of several that have read King books. I have good hopes though for my best friends Girlfriend. She has developed into a Zombie nerd during the last two years. Have given her two Zombie novels, Brooks World War Z and The Return Man but i forgot who wrote that one, and she adored them. In time perhaps... Do you know any other good Zombie stories. And i'm talking novels now, not short story.

I actually like this part about the SKMB (the relative anonymity)
- it is not like Facebook and does not seem to be a "for profit" message board with stupid ads popping up asking you to "Like" something, so that's a big plus in my books.

I've only told my twin sister, and husband. I don't want anyone else to know. This is my refuge online, a place I come for warmth and humour and so much more, and, selfishly, I don't want to share. Facebook is a whole different ballgame sometimes. So many people desperate to "win the internet".

I know what you mean. My new daughter-in-law posted a picture of me and hubby in Mexico at my son's wedding and one person actually said something jealous about it like "enjoy your life" or something stupid like that.
SKMB is so much better than Facebook :cheerful:
