The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
First full read was IT. I had not read a proper novel since I was in school, and I had never read one of my own free will, I was 28. Books just held no interest for me, but I loved the IT mini series (even though it kinda sucks too) and always fancied reading it some time. I actually read half of carrie before I bought IT, I wanted to see if I could get through a hundred or so pages of a king book, I did, and 5 years later I own all of his novels and story collections.

Welcome to the boards.

The woods are lovely dark and deep
It was 1978. Miss Cantwell became our English teacher that year. She was one of those teachers( she would have been 40 in 1978) who liked their writers preferably male, English, and dead before 1850. We had our first library sitting where you had to bring a book or borrow one from the school library. I brought Salem's Lot. She'd make us line up outside the library and as we each walk in, she'd inspect our book. As I showed her Salem's Lot, she sniffed and said, 'Oh, him.'
Yeah, you're right, lady HIM!! Him who could probably teach circles around that broad, eh?

I still remember reading my first Stephen King novel Christine. It started an addiction that has lasted for the past 15 years. What was your first King story?
Hi there, mine was Carrie at 13. I bought it with paperround money because my mum wouldn't let me watch the film, she said it would upset me. Totally identified with Carrie from the start and tried my hardest to "flex" and make stuff move! I've been hooked on SK ever since.

11/22/63. thank goodness he did this because I was never interested in king even though I read quite a bit. big kennedy fan. I saw this book and I hesitated but the I figured what the heck. the cover looks pretty cool and its about kennedy so I should like it. heck I even liked killing kennedy which is a money making stint media push to the masses, just a 4th grade regurgitation history book lesson. but like I said I even liked it bc it had to do with kennedy. anyways. now im off and running with king and really enjoying his writing.

That's great to hear, if only every reader who dismissed king as a low brow horror writer with no literary merit would just actually read his work with an open mind and unbiased from the start. Enjoy your new found back library.

I read 11/22/63. I really liked how SK creates great characters and a sense of place. I plan on reading his new works as they come out.

this was my first as well. I get your plan to read new stuff as comes out but some of his previous work is absolutely grabbing. I have only read like 8 or 9 of his since I didn't start reading him till last couple years but the long walk you might want to check out. also I just fininshed the stand and I give that 9 out of 10 stars.

just curious, who was your favorite character in 112263.

This is from a poll taken by Rolling Stone magazine - this does not even include his "Dark Tower" series which is sort of in a category all by itself.

Cool, I didn't know that, I thought his favourite was lisey's story?

There is a video posted somewhere here on the board...King talking at some place...I think in Florida? Something to do with manatees? Or libraries? Neesy posted it...maybe an hour long. Thought SK said 11/22/63 is a favorite but I have that Anderson's disease...the one that makes you forget? So take it all with a grain of pepper.
