Has anyone watched the movie Paddington? There is a scene where they use the dad's old chemistry set. Newer sets don't have the same chemicals.
I saw Paddington - it was great! (Don't remember the part about the chemicals).

Wood burning kits - those were another good one that you would never see today.

Great thread...

Biked with hockey cards in the spokes to the pond, scooped out tadpoles for the fishbowl at home.
Went to the lake-lot with the family and did all kinds of camping/outdoor stuff.
Star Wars figures, Hulk comics, Hot Wheels and Lego ruled my childhood!!!
Made forts in the basement that took up the WHOLE basement.
Friday nights would be family TV night featuring the CBS line-up of The Incredible Hulk, The Dukes of Hazzard and Dallas (in that order). Many great family memories from those Fridays!!!
Owned almost every K-Tel compilation album out there.
Played the Intellivision, rocked Hungry Hungry Hippos, and napped in my Six Million Dollar Man jammies.

and Dallas

I used to watch Dynasty with my mom. Oh gosh, I would snark, she would laugh. Then we both snarked. I was young and it was just so funny when they were all serious.

The cat fights between Crystal and Alexis, we would be rolling by then.

my mom wrote a personal letter to each of us to read after she passed. And mentioned this in mine, made me smile cry that she remembered.

Awesome toys! Marx with Best of the West and Noble Knights! Liddle Kiddles by Mattel were the best and cutest dolls ever, now ridiculously overpriced collector's items:

The only thing wrong was they were made with wires that would rust and break, so it's hard to find them intact and without blue/green stains. With a few modifications, using similar bodies and same head molds, they could be made today, and new ones designed along the same lines added to make them more ethnically diverse, but no, Mattel won't hear of it! My family and others have received extremely curt, rude, and snotty replies over the years. There were some perfectly hideous remakes in 1976 and they leased the name out to other companies to make updated ones around 1996, but of course not nearly as good as the originals, nor has anything else ever been. (Sad to say, I've paid attention for 40 years.) Companies would rather crank out cheap monstrosities when the same materials could go into producing quality items.

Check out the prices on this ad for the original nine--any 3 for $4.98! In anywhere near this condition you'd now be paying ten times that for ONE (on a good day).

There were several sizes including Locket and Jewelry Kiddles.

Those in the center and lower left have interesting childhood stories connected with them.

I currently have in my possession MANY of these liddle kiddles. Many. And they are intact, not discoloring and no broken wires.

Under your bed
We had a big old woods out back in which I used to roam, machete in hand, pretending to be Conan the Cimmerian, John Carter of Mars, or some warrior of my own design. I was blessed with an active, vivid, wild imagination (thanks be to Crom!), and luckily it has carried over into my adult life via my art and writing.

This vivid imagination had its drawbacks, however; I could scare myself silly. Especially when I listened to this sucker on my sister's bitchin quadrophonic stereo with the headphones on:

Man, the gory sound effects made my skin crawl!

I do remember little dolls being sold inside lockets that you could wear around your neck.
