that when you shined a flashlight up into the night sky that you could communicate with...things...dot dot dot...dash dash dash...dot dot dot. and then run and hide cause I didn't really mean it...just kinda sorta throwin that out there.

that if you were making a real weird face...when you died...that's what people would see, you lying there in the coffin, tongue sticking out, lips pulled back...eyes all googly.

over by the Ahmeek Mill...that I didn't know was called the Ahmeek Mill until much later in life...and I still don't know why they called it that though I have my suspicions...there was a pipe outlet over there...near the creek...pile of blackberry bushes there, too...but this pipe sent out steam every so often, like Old Faithful...and we'd dance in the steam...and then we ran faster and jumped higher...that and Red Ball Jets...those do that, too.

that if you placed a penny on the railroad tracks, the train would de-rail...but only believed that until the first flattened penny...made it about two three times as big as it had been, completely flattened, smooth, irregular. Like an egg cooked on a stove that ain't level. Why I dunno.

that there was this pipe up in the dam...up above the Hungarian Falls...and if you went swimming in the dam there, the pipe would suck you in and spit you out in the mills way down below the hills...that one was for sure real...I remember studying the water of the dam trying to see the pipe, never did though...maybe an acre and a half only this dam was...and we never did go swimming in the dam.

that you could disappear in the sands...they dumped all the tailings from the stamp mills into the lake...and there were places that were mushy...you could walk there stand in one spot and kinda almost march in place? Only not? Not lift your feet? and pretty soon the water would start seeping up around your tennies...but we never did disappear. the tailings were like a desert except on the edges and other places where underground creeks ran below the surface...those places we likened to quicksand but it never measured up.

that McGann's house was haunted...Jimmy comes over this once, he'd moved to Wisconsin but he was up...and we went over to the McGann house, climbed down the concrete steps past the wild rose bushes...all thorny...to the old wood steps...walked up the steps and pushed open the door that was really a jar...and there's a picture of a pope or someone...maybe a cardinal? Well...that old cardinal stepped out of the picture and we ran.

probably others...those are a few.

When playing in the woods as a child, I was always scared I would get caught in quicksand and die a slow, gross death with all that vomity-looking quicksand dragging me down and choking me to death. Gilligan and the Six Million Dollar Man seemed to have trouble with it, so I thought it must be everywhere. I spent a lot of time being frightened of something I've never come across.

Jesus last name was Murphy.
Oh these Murphys! They think they are all that and a box of cookies.
I use to think that grave yards were called gravy yards.
I use to insist that the colour purple was actually called coss colour...and nobody could tell me any different. I was right...they were wrong.
I believed that the clouds were made out of angel hair.

I had the very same fear. There are certain ways a person can die which are truly horrifying to me and via quicksand has always been one.

I used to sing "God shed His grapes on thee" when the National Anthem was played.

Last night I was showing clips of "History of the World Part I" to my son. It reminded me....

When I was little, I always thought my mom painted The Last Supper. (Yes...with Jesus Murphy sitting in the middle, lol.)

She had painted the one in our kitchen....I saw her. So, when I saw the exact same picture somewhere else, I assumed she had painted it as well. And when I saw it on tv once, I thought my mom must be famous. It was such a wonderful picture.....and to think....my mom was there on such an historic day.
