At that time Tuesday's were my day off. I live in The Netherlands and tuned in the live coverage right after the first plain hit, i'll never forget the stunned face of the anchorman of the newsprogram when the second plane hit the tower. From then on i sat in shock in front of the t.v. , watching the towers fall, the dustclouds overflowing the city, the missing planes, the Pentagon, it was an incredibly surreal day. There are moments in your life you'll never forget, this is one of them...

Talking to some of my young clients at a group home in Fort McMurray. The telly was on in the lounge area. I could not believe it. I frantically tried to contact my sister who worked in downtown Manhattan. What a scary time this was. Phoned Mom and found out all aircraft was landing in Gander, Newfoundland....they would remain there for days being cared for by the people there. My friend was an air traffic controller there.

I am only a child at that time. Probably playing with my toys inside my house

((Ironic that my friend celebrates his birthday in that day))

It was my cousins birthday too.

And the following year he felt to guilty to celebrate. Eventually he did start celebrating, but he said he hated that on his birthday there was always sadness in people's eyes. So, one year, he called someone to come pick him up. He had rented a clown costume and he had the person drive him around. He was hanging out the window waving at people...making them smile again.

I was at work in a meeting with my boss. Her husband called and told her what was going on. Thought he was joking at first. The we heard the news from other coworkers. They let us go home early.

My Dad was still on the BPD at the time. He ended up working 12 on / off shifts for several weeks after. One of the few times that I actually worried about him while he was working.

Seeing the footage of those planes hitting the towers still makes me extremely sad and angry.

I was working at an accounting firm and I was at my desk getting ready to go to a golf tournament that we were partially sponsoring, plus a couple of us were in charge of the check-ins, money, etc. A co-worker was going by my cubicle saying that a plane had hit the World Trade Center, and I immediately thought he must have heard wrong. I rushed up to the conference room where a group of people were gathered around the tv, and as we stood watching in disbelief the second plane hit. It was so surreal, like this could not be happening, yet it was.

I still had to go to the golf tournament since they were not cancelling it, and on my drive over had the radio on. Before I got there, both towers had fallen. I felt numb, confused and scared. The check-in room where we were set up didn't have a tv, and I kept leaving to go into the lobby and watch the tv coverage. When I got back after a trip out, some guy was irritated that he had to wait to check in and he wanted to get on the course. I apologized and told him I had been checking to see what was happening, as the Pentagon had also been hit by now. He scoffed at me and actually said, "Oh, come on!! it's not like we're at war or anything!"

I stared at him in disbelief and finally said, "Well, what the hell would you call it? Oh I'm sorry, I didn't notice till now that your head was up your a**!! I guess your golf game is more important than a terrorist attack, have a great day."

That was completely out of character for me, but I just couldn't believe this clueless, self-centered jerk. Luckily I didn't lose my job, but I couldn't help myself.

When I finally left, picked my daughter up from daycare and got home, I had to try and explain to a 4 year old what had happened. Plus I had to turn the tv off because every time they showed the planes hitting she thought it was happening again.

What a horrible day.

I was getting my two oldest ready for school. I saw the first plane hit, and thought it was an accident. Went to feed the little one and my son came in saying another plane had crashed. I told him that it was probably a replay of the first crash and hurried the two oldest out the door to school. It was only after I got back home and listened to the news more closely that I realized what had happened.

I was at work. Someone told me a plane hit the WTC. Thought it was a tourist plane.
Large TV in the cafeteria. Saw the second come in.

Nobody moved. Everyone standing. Staring. Not much talk. Staring at the people stranded up high. God, the feeling, they are going to die. Those people at the windows are going to die.

Someone said quietly , "we are at war".

Scared. Oh, so scared. Afraid to look in the sky.

My niece was in DC. Could not make a phone call all day. Lines down or busy.
She was locked down at Georgetown U. My brother in law was on the way to Manhattan last I heard. Phones all down.

Got ahold of her the next day. She could see the smoke and smell it. BIL ok.

Next day at work, meeting with whole company. We sang 'God bless America'
I don't think there was a dry eye, me included.

Goddamn it. Got me all in gloomy and melancholy mood. It hit too damn close to home. The History Channel special they showed on the 10-year anniversary features a short clip my coworkers shot out of the 5th floor window of 111 Fulton St. It's Kim screaming in the background and Vishal saying: "Oh my f@cking god!" over and over again when the second plane hit. Later in the documentary they showed Kim and a few others covered in dust walking away from the building. When I called work close to 10 asking if everyone was OK, they told me not to bother coming in. When I called again at 10:45, the lines were cut off.

Back in February, my wife and I were witnesses to a deadly accident - a woman, high on something, ran over a bicyclist. The woman was a widow of one of 9/11 FDNY first responders.

When the planes started flying again, I was still scared. Looking at them.
My niece took one of the first flights out to Europe, when airspace was cleared. I took heart that that this must me a safe flight, checking high security. She said the reporting over there was much more graphic then what they showed us.

Within in the next couple of days when air space was cleared - The big military planes started flying over, on the way to Dover De, Military Base. Lots and Lots of them.

I was at work reading a really strange/weird story in the Globe and Mail newspaper. The prior day the American FAA issued a threat to Canada that Salman Rushdie was trying to enter the United States via Canada. The FAA stated that if Canada lets him land they will lose their commercial rights to fly in U.S. airspace. "What the hell?! That's a pretty big serious threat!" I thought when my colleague came into my office to inform me of what was currently happening. I have never heard Salman Rushdie mentioned in connection with this afterwards but it still seems odd that the day before the towers fell there was this sabre rattling going on.

I was working the 3 to 11 shift in my city the night before, and usually up till two or three..I woke up at 9,and saw the coverage, and was watching in disbelief..I did see the second plane hit,saw the explosion and debris shattering, but was thinking it might be a tape delay, even the commentators made no mention of it for about a half minute or more..then it was obvious that a second plane had hit..it was awful..watched in total disbelief, until it was time to go to work at two..the briefing room, the halls, everyone was so quiet..after going out on the streets,it was the same, nobody was asking for help or any problems or anything, and the streets themselves were eerily quiet, hardly any foot or vehicle traffic.Everyone was still watching..God bless the poor souls who lost their lives that day..

Maybe you and some other friends could plan a big surprise party for next year.

My cousin felt that by giving up "his" day the terrorists won. Taking it back was his way of fighting back. Prior to 2001, he had always had a BIG celebration.
