At 20 I was working, going to school and screwing around.

And at 41 I'm.......working, going to school and screwing around! Seems I have not progressed very far :(

Well, not entirely true. Instead of working in the mail room I'm a project manager. I've recorded and released a couple of CD's. Met a bunch of really cool and interesting people. I have a condo and a bit*hin' Camaro :)

Not the rockstar I wanted to be but things could be worse :)

I was still trying to become an EMT. They had a little PROBlem with women working in EMS in the late 80's. Some of them STILL have a little problem with it. No more than a few years ago, in 2009, a guy worked his butt off for a year trying to get me fired. He hasn't even really stopped acting that way even after finding out the captain, who was a firefighter/EMT before there were ANY women doing it (in the 70's), let the guy know how much he disliked the guy's behavior.
I didn't actually become an EMT-B until 1991 and then there were hardly any women doing it, and most guys felt like this guy of a few years ago believed, that we were only doing it to "show off" or "prove some kind of ridiculous point."
I worked at Elektra Records as light clerical work before 1991 and just kept trying to be an EMT. Not to show off, and after the last few days I've had, I don't know why ANYone would think a person does it for that reason. It was because I saw my sister dying and paramedics saved her life.

Thanks for this and your dedication. Let folks think what they wanna think. Eventually they hang themselves.

I was living in a house share. The only meat eater amongst 4 vegetarians I barely knew but it was fun. And windy, if you know what I mean. I was temping in a big office in Hastings for the Civil Service, and working behind a bar in a country pub in the evenings. I got my first tattoo. I was only one of a handful of temps. We'd all end up down the pub on a Friday lunch time, and rarely went back to work sober. At the pub I worked in, there were always parties after it shut. You seemed to do that in those days. Never now. It seemed permanently summer. I had a car, no insurance, or tax disk. I didn't really get responsible until my 30's. However, living and taking care of myself since I was 19 I guess the fact I'm still here is testament to a little bit of savvy :) (I'm now 42).

Living large - like most of us. I was going college (I was a Humanities dork), sharing an apartment with 2 girlfriends, Sundays we went to a Cheers type bar to eat dinner and throw darts while the band played, and drink lots, of course; Wednesdays we went to a club called the Ozone where our favorite band played, Fridays we went to RP Tracks until they closed and then we went to someplace that stayed open until 3am. Saturdays we ate pizza and watched Lifetime movies. None of us had a boyfriend and that was just fine. Somehow, though, between 20 and 21, I met the Ogre, got married, got a mortgage and had a baby.

I met The Man in a place just like that! I never went to meet people (just to dance, play darts, and drink long neck Budweisers--and yes, I was underage. Don't follow my example, Critic & Proud), but that night he was the first person I saw when I walked in the door. I thought, "Wow, that guy's cute". I never would have met him if I didn't get talking to a friend of a friend who asked me out. I agreed & he asked if I thought my friend would go out with his friend. His friend turned out to be the cute guy, of course. Good first date (though it wasn't together :D), and here we are 27 years later.

Working full time with a family to support, and going to college in the evenings. Also spent many a weekend helping the owner of the apartment building (who I swear could do anything) remodel when tenants moved out, and also doing repairs. I served as sort of the “super” of the apartment building, which got me a little break on the rent, and got a little money under the table for the weekend work. I always felt those weekends were the best education I ever received.
